Helena Paparizou receives European Award

On Sunday 21st January, Helena Paparizou received the European Border Breaker Award for her debut album Protereotita-Euro edition. Helena is the first Greek artist to receive such a distinction. My number one, the European edition of her Greek cd Protereotita, was the best selling album by a Greek debutant throughout Europe.

The European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA's) is an initiative of the European Comission in cooperation with EMO, GESAC, ICMP/CIEM, IFPI, IMPALA, MTV Europe and Billboard Information Group. The Awards are given to young European artists, together with their record companies, authors and publishers, that achieve the best continental exports from their country with a debut album.They are based on statistics provided by the Billboard Information Group and according to the following criteria:

· Original debut album of an artist or a band from an EU Member State;
· Sales in EU Member states outside the country of production;
· Sales between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006.

Helena received her award from Ján Figel, European Comissioner of Education, Training, Culture and Youth. The 4th edition of the EBBA's took place during the MIDEM, an important yearly conference for members of the music industry, at the Palais des Festivals, in Cannes, France. It was attended by Odile Quintin, Director General, Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities and many European Ministers of Culture.

The show was broadcast live by MTV Europe and Helena performed her latest hit Teardrops for the European audience.

This year's winners were:

- Corinne Bailey Rae, "Corinne Bailey Rae" (Good Groove/EMI, UK)
- Blog 27, "LOL" (Magic Rec/Kontor, Poland)
- Celtic Woman, "Celtic Woman" (Angel, Ireland)
- José Gonzalez, "Veneer" (Imperial/Bonnier, Sweden)
- Vittorio Grigolo "In the Hands of Love" (Polydor/Universal, Italy)
- Beatriz Luengo, "Beatriz Luengo" (AZ/Universal, Spain)

- Helena Paparizou, "My Number One" (Columbia/Sony BMG, Greece)

Helena Paparizou won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 for Greece with My number one.

And plus, it's not like Star just made up the award. Elena held the award and talked to them. [urlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osWloCddRIo. It clearly shows a picture of "Proteriotita: Euro-Edition" on it. And this is not garbage star news where they made stuff up. They had an exclusive with Elena and her team on the whole event. Also according to the rules ESCToday posted, "· Sales in EU Member states outside the country of production; ". So it is the Greek CD. It was produced in Greece, and sold in Europe as an export.

ACtually Star News had an exclusive on the whlle event with Elena. It's on You Tube. The award shows her Greek CD on it. And there was an album called "My Number One" but only released in a couple of countries. She won the award for her Greek CD (Euro-Edition version) which was sold as an import in european countries. According to the rules "Sales in EU Member states outside the country of production". The CD is produced in Greece and sold alot of copies outside of Greece as an export.

Actually you are wrong Greek boy... The Alboum "Proteraiotita:Euro edition" is the re-released alboum Proteraiotita plus 4 songs: My number one, Ok, The light in our soul and one more song wich was also in the greek final in 2005. It wouldnt be so popular if my number one wasnt in it.
P.S. There is no alboum called "My number one".
You are not listenning to me...Do not believe much of the reports from "Star"l...Their news are a laugh! ;)

The Euro Edition-CD was never released in Sweden. I thought it was a Greece-release only?

@drusus 1, surely you must have heard of José Gonzalez and his song that was used across the WORLD by Sony. He must be by far the most successful last year on that list and his songs have been used on the OC too!! If you really have not heard him I highly recommend a listen as although I do like Paprizou, he makes her music sound like nothing in comparison. Glad he won too! But Bravo to helena as well.... must be a Swedish born thing ;)

Yes. I am right. ESCTODAY. YOU HAVE IT WRONG. Elena recieved and award for her re-released debut GREEK Album "Proteriotita: Euro-Edition". NOT "My Number One". Look at this picture too showing the award: http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/5514/1nd8.jpg

I don`t know this award nor any of these singers except for Helena ( because of the ESC of course but I don`t know any other song than My # 1 ) and Tokio Hotel. But was a song called " Schrei " a european hit ? I doubt so.....
