esctoday.com award on Lejn il-eurovision

Mihai thanks esctoday.com

Mihai Traistariu, Romania's 2006 representative at the Eurovision Song Contest saw his entry Tornero, voted 'Song of the year' by almost 18,000 readers on Christmas eve. Last night, during an interview for Lejn il-Eurovision, Malta's leading Eurovision Song Contest television show, esctoday.com dropped in to present him with his award. The presentation will be shown on tonight's edition and readers can tune in via the internet broadcast to see Mihai's reaction!

Tonight's Lejn il-Eurovision is a special edition focusing on last night's 2007 edition of the Malta Song for Europe semi final and will be hosted by Marica Mizzi and Claudette Pace. Filmed at Ta' Qali Malta Fairs and Convention Centre, the programme features interviews with the singers right after their performances, as well as interviews with the six finalists for tomorrow's final.

Cyrus Engerer from partner website www.escmalta.com interviewed the general public on a number of issues related to the festival prior to yesterday's evening, as well as having comments from people attending the semi final.

Frederick Zammit interviews Natasha and Charlene Grima who will be competing in the Bulgarian national final, one of thirteen Super Saturday events around Europe. Joseph and Gordon from Toni & Guy, the official hairstylists for this year's festival, talk also about their challenges with the different styles. Frederick Zammit also has interviewed  the international jury from yesterday's semifinal.

All this and much more in tonight's special edition of Lejn il-Eurovision on Net TV from 2120 - 2300 CET

I didn't watch and listen about this year's romanian entries, but I expect a very good winner as Romania did in the past 2 years.Good luck Romania.

I think the performance, mostly regarding choreography and clothing was much worse than the other top countries. Especially Finland, Russia, and Sweden (It was laughable that carola got "the award" for worst dress. I have even read people on the net claiming that they gave her points because of her nice pants), but also Ukraine lower down were much better than Romania in that department. Now regarding the song I can understand those who preferred it. However I don't think it was especially pleasant to listen to his falsetto and to me the song sounded very dated (80/90s). I would say more so than Carolas song. Now he is a very talented guy and the song were among the best but I don't think one can say that a great injustice was made. The consensus among the larger European population which is not the same as the small esctoday community, was clearly that Finland was best and most original. Now the esctoday award is definetely an honour because the voters are generally much more knowledgable and passionate about Eurovision music, if perhaps skewed towards gay taste and Tornero struck me as very gay. One of the points with such an award is that some years it will go to a song that didn't win the real competition. That doesn't mean automatically that the real competition was unfair. However it shows that what is the best song is never written in stone (except for Waterloo:=)).

As for myself Mihai was great, as were Lordi and Dima and Sylvia and Anzej. But it was Severina that stole my heart.

Tornero was the best song last year by a mile... But now it's time to start to sing Dracula, my love by Simplu and Andra because I think that this song will win the "Selectia Nationala 2007" and will be the Romanian entry in Helsinki. Good Luck for them. Please visit url=www.tvr.ro/eurovision]www.tvr.ro/eurovision/url] to watch the promo video of the song... :)

Dear Melina, Mihai doesn't recieved points from two countries, Lordi from three countries. Mihai maybe was the best, but the countries from ex-Yugoslavia for example of course voted Bosnia-Herzegovina more than Romania. Romania recieved maxim 4 points from every Balkanic countries in last two years (when was 3rd and 4th). If you are looking in the map Romania is not in Scandinavia and if you read a history book you will see that Romania didn't was in Yougoslavia or USRR and is the only latin country from this region (so not many love Romania). If Romania doesn't win is not her fault, that country made all for winnig.

Well, I couldn't disagree more, Nick-Oh... Lordi deserved the victory more than anyone else, otherwise they wouldn't have won!!! Lordi got votes from all over Europe, not just their neighbours. Is it so hard to realize that not everyone likes discopop (like Tornero)?! Simple as that.

And when on earth will the losers stop moaning about "political voting"?! Everybody knows that a good song/act will get votes from everyone, not just neighbours. It's such a silly excuse always to use afterwards... (I know it's widely used here in the UK, only because it has done badly in recent years, and I don't agree with that.)

Well, I can try to explain...It's beacuse his song really WAS THE BEST ???!!!??? And DESERVED WINNING? But for some reasons he didn't!!! Political reasons and friendship between countries (scandinavian countries supported Lordi, ex-Yugoslavian countries supported Hari Mata Hari and Russian countries supported Dima Bilan). So, these 3 massive blocks of countries stopped Mihai's Tornero to win. Same thing happened in 2005 with Luminita & Sistem's "Let me try" ...So this is the voice of the esctoday.com readers - the real Eurovision loyal fans. They decided: "Tornero" was the real winner. Mihai deserved winning, not the monsters....

To be honest, I don't understand what's the idea of selecting 'Song of the Year' 2006 - the real song of that year has already been chosen in ESC 2006!! What's the point in doing it again?! Could someone explain..?

he has one of the best vocal ranges ever heard on eurovision, a stunning voice and a great song, and if diva has a list of disgusting songs i assume carola is top of the list
