Sweden Goes for Schlager

Tommy and Anna to Globen

The first Melodifestivalen semifinal is over and we have the first to songs for Globen as well as two songs to "Andra Chansen". Sweden did once again go for the more traditional songs and leaft all the modern songs except Elin Lanto's "Money" outside the competition.

The first semifinal of Melodifestivalen 2007 is over and it became - just like everyone thought - a fight between a more modern sound and the more traditional Swedish "Schlager" sound. The Swedish people seems to know exactly how they think their Melodifestivalen winners should sound like.

Record company Director Bert Karlsson said to esctoday.com that the Swedish people want more traditional schlager songs in Melodifesitalven and that they probably will vote all for all the schalger songs in the contest.

- It's positive that SVT wants different kind of music in the contest and that they are trying to make it more modern. However, they have taken it too far this year and it's time that they add more schlager and pop to Melodifestivalen!

After the first short round of televoting three songs were eliminated; Andreas Lundstedt with "Move", Addis Black Widow with "Clubbin" and Sofia Berntson with "Hypnotized". Then everyone had another 10 minutes to cast their televotes again. This was an interesting elimination since all these three songs had a sound that is more of 2007 and it's interesting to see that once again Sweden has voted them off. Will this be the case for the next semi-finals as well? Then perhaps there is a need for some changes in the voting system if SVT wants to send a more up to date song to Eurovision or if they are fine with the peoples choice. Almost all the songs becomes big hits in Sweden anyway even if you don't get voted to the final in Globen.

Andreas Lundstedt, who finishted in sixth place, looked dissappointed after being eliminated and told esctoday.com that he had hoped for a better result.

- I am satisfied with my performance but had hoped for a more positive result tonight. Anyway, my dancers and I will rule on the dancefloor tonight. Just like we have done all other nights here in Jönköping.

Sofia Berntson, who ended up seventh, said to esctoday.com that she were very satisfied with her performance and that she actually never believed that she would be able to go through to the final.

- I am happy that I got a chance to show the Swedish audience who I am and what I can deliver on stage. I have a single out any day now and feel that I have started something for myslef.

The winners, Tommy Nilsson with "Jag tror på människan" and Anna Book with "Samba sambero", were both thrilled about the result! Anna couldn't stop telling the press how happy she felt. While speaking to esctoday.com she became very emotional and mentioned her belated father.

- He is with me in my heart and I am so happy that he and my mom raised me to become who I am. I believe that my positive energy on stage and that I always deliver from the heart put me in the final, Anna said and dried her tears.

- I really feel like a winner! This is my third time and it feels like "third time lucky"! The last time I entered the contest I ended up in the last position. Tonight it feels so much better!

Tommy Nilsson told esctoday.com that he felt nervous during the performance. Afterwards he felt relieved and satisfied.

- It was a great to feel the positive respons from the audience. I am thrilled!

Elin Lanto was the clear winner in our poll earlier today with her song "Money". She told the press after the show that she didn't allow her self to have any expectations before the contest.

- This was my best performance with the song! I can't see that I could have done anything differently tonight. I am happy to have had the chance to show the public that I am more than a singer and that I am able to deliever a show like this. Melodifestivalen is the biggest thing I've done so far!

Elin Lanto will be joined in "Andra Chansen" in Nyköping by the duo Uno and Irma and their song "God morgon".

- We are satisfied with the respons we received. Performing after all the other artists felt good and made us calm. We look forward to perform again in Nyköping!

The final results are:

To Globen:

1. Tommy Nilsson - Jag tror på människan

1. Anna Book - Samba Sombero

The two songs for "Andra chansen" are:

3. Elin Lanto - Money

3. Uno & Irma - Godmorgon

The eliminated songs are: (in ranking order by televotes)

5. Andersson & Gibson - Anything but you

 6. Andreas Lundstedt - Move

7. Sofia Berntsson - Hypnotized

8. Addis Black Widow - Clubbin

Yeah right
If what you write is true also Andersson and Gibson, Andreas Lundstedt, Addis Black Widdow and Elin Lanto should have had a good chance. It was only Sofia who was a debutant in this semifinals.

My guess went well, topp four in there right positions. But is it also my taste?
Answer: NO

01 Uno and Irma "God morgon"
02 Andreas L "Move"
03 Anna Book "Samba sambero"
04 Elin Lanto "Money"
05 Andersson and Gibson "Anything but you"
06 Addis Black Widdow "Clubbin"
07 Sofia "Hypnotized"
08 Tommy Nilsson "Jag tror på människan"

But it was a choice between loosers really. The worst start in a national finals ever! On a scale on 1 to 5 the average rate in my book was 1,75. Awful.

Yeah Right! - I totally agree!! It´s sad, so sad...
Nicke Picke - let´s cross fingers for Uno&Irma

No Nicke Picke, you are the crazy one! Good morning, is a song that perhaps could be listenable when you wake up in the morning but not on any other time of the day, especially not in the evening. It's terrifyingly bland and sounds like a bad ripp off of his earlier middle of the road songs. If you are going to have a slow song in the Eurovision it better have a beautifyl melody. Ok, perhaps i was to harsh, one shouldn't attack those who are trying and everyone is entitled to his or her taste, but your post was contrary to that notion.

I feel ashame to be Swedish after this semifinal.
The two worst songs went to the final, only based on that they were the most famous artists participating in that semifinal.
From now on I know that there will be nooo chanes for new artists in this competition at all. The typical swedish person doesn't vote for the song, just for who is the most famous.
These songs are TERRIBLE. Obviously they would go to the final even if people would have no volume on their TV. I honeslty hope that my country send a shitty song like one of those two so we can have a bad position in ESC and maybe choose wiser next year.

I have no words for this. I feel sick... this is not music. Anna Book is famous for ONE song she did 20 years ago and Tommy Nilsson performs maybe the ugliest ballad with the most pathetic lyrics ever.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!!!

You people must be crazy! Andreas Lundstedts song was terrifying bad...
The best song last night was "God morgon" with Uno & Irma. I'll hope it reach the final.

@ THODORIS KOUTROS

How can you predict ANYTHING about the MF final, when in fact you haven´t heard the songs that are competing in the other forthcoming semifinals? :)

Hi everyone!

I´m very dissopointed after the first semifinal, Andreas Lundstedt should definitly be in final, he has the most modern song of all.

Here are my top 5 from 1st semifinal:

1. Andreas Lundstedt - Move
2. Anna Book - Samba Sombero
3. Elin Lanto - Money
4. Uno & Irma - God Morgon
5. Tommy Nilsson - Jag tror på människan

Hope on better songs next semifinal.

none of these will win in the final!
I predict about 3rd place for Anna Book and 5th place for Tommy Nilsson in the final!

After seeing & hearing the live performances I wasn´t suprised wich of the 4 songs that went through to the final and the 2nd chance.

I really liked "Hypnotized" by Sofia, but her live performance was week. So was Andreas Lundstedt, although I don´t get that song at all. All in all, a heat filled with low quality songs with ONE exception:

VERY HAPPY to see that the best song and performer went directly to the final: TOMMY NILSSON!!!! :)

Elin and Andreas were the best, I can't believe that Andersson and Gibson placed better than him!

Anna Book was great. Good song, good performance and could make it well in Helsinki if she wins in Sweden. But I just can`t understand why Andreas Lundstedt and "Move" dit not make it to the finale or second chance, wow what a fantastic song and performance, this would have been something really new for ESC and for Sweden. Also i think Tommy Nilson has a poweful and good song. Looking forward to next saturdays show and specially The Ark.

It was a weak fist semi finals. The winners had not made it to Top 10 last year. Anna Book may be a nice person, and it´s is a real old fashion schlager - but its not good at all. Tommy Nilsson has a good voice and his song will be populer in Balad-radio and Radio P4 (for old people). None of the tracks, i think will hit Tracks Chart Top 20. Host Kristain Luuk was no hit. Take back Lena Philipsson! By the way, do u like the duets in the show, listen to new song from Lena Philipsson & Orup called "Jag måste skynda mig på". Thats a good duet!

My ranking of the first Meldodifestival-semifinal:
1. Andreas Lundstedt - "Move"
2. Sofia - "Hypnotized"
3. Elin Lanto - "Money"
4. Uno & Irma - "God Morgon" Good Morning
5. Andersson & Gibsson - "Anything But You"
6. Tommy Nilsson - "Jag Tror På Människan"
7. Anna Book - "Samba Sambero"
8. Addis Black Widow - "Clubin"

To my own big suprice, Anna had actually the best song tonight! I don't like Anna so much, but this song was a great party-samba-happy-song that almost made me to get up on the dancefloor! Annas "Samba Sambero" will be a big hit on the swedish "Svensktoppen", believe me! This song was originall and had a own style. And i'm so happy that Anna had the right dress to this, i would not like it if she was in a short one (uh..)!

But Tommy Nilssons song "Jag Tror På Människan" was like if somebody and put a bunch of ballad-hits in a mixer, and made them to a ballad without character, wich made me mad, very mad!

Except for "Samba Sambero", the other best song this night were "Anything But You" with Andersson & Gibson, how the hell didin't people voted for that to the final?! I still wonder, wonder and wonder!!

The worst song was "Clubbin'", the bitchsinger sounded like she was screaming than singin, a HORRIBLE SONG =(

SWEDISH are awesome! ... You chose the best two!.... Solid songs...Sammmbaa Samberooo!...I just can't get enough of SWEDEN.....Is it expensive to move there?

Marcus A [23635]

Elin Lanto had the best song. It is the only one with a shadow of a chance internationally. I liked Uno & Irma too and surprised myself as I usually don´t give a s**t for Uno´s stuff. Anna Book was cheerful as always but both her song and her voice are too weak to have any chances. Andreas Lundstedt had a horribly boring song. Andersson & Gibson had a great song :) but again, without that mass appeal. Hypnotized and Clubbin were both crap. And last..Tommy Nilsson.. it beats me what people saw or heard in him and his awful song. It and Clubbin were the only ones I was SURE would NOT go to the final. (S) My guess is that the Swedish people, AGAIN, voted for the person and not the song. :@

I felt sure that Anything But You would be in the top 4. It's such a lovely, simple song, but people obviously preferred God Morgon in that genre. I also thought Move would be in that top four. What do I know? At least we have Olivia for Malta!

Sami K [19835]
Sun 4 Feb 2007 02:09:36

As I predicted, and really boring! Neither one of them will win the final. Too bad that Andreas L didn´t do better, now he deserves a big hit on the singles chart! What a crappy start for MF!

I so sad!!
Andreas Lundstedt and "Move" was just great. Whatta man - whatta performance!
He had the sexiest performance ever and a great Hit!

I don`t think Anna Book was so good: Latino is old fashioned now!

Peter Eriksson [28468]
Sun 4 Feb 2007 01:12:24

"Anything but you" was the only good song tonight, I hope for a better semi next week!!

Anna Book & Andreas Lundstedt had the best songs, then Elin Lanto
My ranking of the first Meldodifestival-semifinal:
1. Andreas Lundstedt - "Move" (6th)
2. Anna Book - "Samba Sambero" (final)
3. Elin Lanto - "Money" (andra chansen (2nd chanse))
4. Tommy Nilsson - "Jag Tror På Människan" I belive In Man (final)
5. Sofia - "Hypnotized" (7th)
6. Andersson & Gibsson - "Anything But You" (5th)
7. Uno & Irma - "God Morgon" Good Morning (2nd chanse))
8. Addis Black Widow - "Clubin" (8th)

Johan Eng [37302]
Sun 4 Feb 2007 00:07:57

I think that Anna & Tommy diserved a place in the final. But I was hoping that Andreas Lundsted would go either to the final or to "andra chansen" (second chanse, where the performars that past for "andra chansen" can perform again and compete for the final 2 positions in the final.
/Johan (SWEDEN)

Sweden, why didnt you vote for Andreas? he was the best performer tonight!!!

Tommy was awful and old fashioned and you will be back in the semifinal if you choose him for Helsinki.
