Romania: The day after

Meet Locomondo-Lyrics online

Last Saturday the Romanian public and jury decided that Locomondo will represent Romania in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. Liubi, liubi I love you is a fun song by an unusual group that follows in the steps of LT United, forming for the occasion by five professional musicians and a chance member.

The ride to the Romanian final was a rough one, with disqualifications, plagiarism accusations and withdrawals. Marius Moga and Morandi & Wassabi finally realised their threat and boycotted the final in protest of Dracula, my love not being reinstated.
With one more strong favourite out of the way, things became much easier for Locomondo who were among the favourites themselves from the beginning anyway.
We go with the message of love, peace and tolerance from God” declared Kamara, member of Locomondo, immediately after the results.
But not everybody was pleased with the winner. Specifically, in the show “Eurovision -Pro & contra”, broadcasted by the Romanian national television, many doubted the group’s talent and voice capacities, implying that they are not able to sing live, especially to a show as big as Eurovision Song Contest.
Mihai Georgescu , leader of the group Bere gratis and member of the jury declared that Locomondo is a “lucky winner” and wouldn’t have made it if the competition was one of a different kind.

Meet the band

Bogdan Marian Taşcău aka Dl. Problema (Mr Problem, a nickname he got from a song of his former boy band MB & C, is the composer of Liubi, Liubi, I Love You and sings the Spanish verse. He entered the music industry eleven years ago but his first musical project was in 1995 with MB & C. Originally, he was a music band manager and composer. He is currently dealing with the marketing and management of many popular groups such as Akcent, Blondy and Alb negru.

Kamara Ghedi sings the French verse. He was born in Romania to a Romanian mother (a member of the Filotti family, the grandaughter of famous actress Maria Filotti) and a French Guinean father. After his father’s death the family moved to Guinea where they stayed until he was 22 years old. In the year 1997 he returned to Romania to study journalism  at the Faculty of Cluj. At this time he was between football and university until he won a scholarship and went to Bucharest where he met his wife. While being a player at the football team he met Andrei Stefanescu and they formed their band called Alb negru (Black and white).

Andrei Ştefănescu sings the Romanian verse. He is the other half of the group “Alb negru”. He met Kamara while playing together to a soccer team and becoming friends  they created this band. The group enjoyed great success winning many festivals all over Romania. His fiancée, Anca, is a member of a popular Romanian group called Asia. Together they released  their first single Impreuna (Together) which  is included to Alb negru’s third  album Hello.

Ciro de Luca sings the Italian verse. He was born in Napoli, Italy, and he is 35 years old. He has been singing for 22 years but his career really started  at cabarets and comedy theaters. In 1991 he formed his first group called Gipsy fint but after 3 years he went solo. Ciro has composed a lot of melodies for various artists including Nino d’ Angelo. In 1999 he came back to Romania where he lives till today. In 2003 he won the Festival of Napoli and the Latin-American festival in Rome.

Vlad Creţu sings the English verse. He was born in Bucharest and he is 25 years old. He studied at the George Enescu Music High School where he specialized in the guitar. In 1999 he created the group Supermarket who released 2 albums. Since 2005 he is a member of the group Hara, one of the most popular groups in Romania.

Valeriu Răileanu sings the Russian verse. He originally attended  a Music High School but gave it up to follow a different career. This happened 20 years ago. He joined Locomondo by pure chance. Kamara asked him to help them translate the song in Russian. He accepted, but afterwards everybody asked him to stay and sing along since no one else could sing in Russian. So he stayed. “It’s a childhood dream come true” declared Valeriu.

Lyrics

Everywhere around the world "I love you" it means the same
Everyday and every night only you can touch my flame
So take my heart, take my soul, everything of me
Everywhere you go my baby, even Italy.

Gde to tam, kto to tam
Menia liubi nezabud
Skazi da liubimaja
Liubi liubi ti menia
Gde bi ti nenahadilas
Gde nepobivala
Budu zdat liubimaja
Sevodnia i vsegda

Mademoiselle, partout au monde,un je t'aime c'est la même chose,
Chaque jour, chaque nuit, toi, tu reste ma seule rose,
Par mon coeur, par mon âme, ma vie, ma chérie,
appelle moi, où que tu sois même en Roumanie

Undeva cineva te iubeste, nu uita
Spune da, iubita mea, stii cum e cu dragostea
Oriunde ai fi, oricat ai sta, te voi astepta
Inima imi spune ea, aici e casa ta.

(bis)
Everywhere around the world, "io ti amo" e sempre uguale
Cada dia y cada noche, liubi, liubi ti minia
Par mon coeur, par mon âme, ma vie, ma chérie,
Inima imi spune ea, aici e casa ta.

Locomondo will be competing directly in the Eurovision Song Contest final in Helsinki due to Mihai Traistariu’s fourth place in Athens.

A very special thanks to Aris Kalimeris for the submission of the information.

Well...what I can say about our song?! I don't like it, I never did and I'm sure I won't like it even if it would do something good in Finland...I agree that it's a very bad choice, and I must say that we had better songs this year like: "Time " by Ionut Ungureanu and my favourite :"Dracula, my love" by Simplu and Andra. "Dracula, my love" was eliminated for a stupid reasons if you'd ask me why, and I think this was our biggest mistake. Our second mistake was choising Locomondo...and this mistake it will be very expensive for us.I must also say that "Dracula, my love " was the favourite of the audience..but..I told you what happened with it :( Anyway , I wish good luck to our boys and I hope they will be in top 10.

@Molly Parton

Are you sexually frustrated or something?!

@Mario Marino
Why do you write "We are the winners" was offensive? I can't see anything offensive in it, would you please explain?
I actually liked it a lot although it reminded me of our italian group "Statuto" ("Abbiamo vinto il festival di Sanremo" ;).

A year or two ago a friend gave me a sheet with an alternative scoring system. There are about 30 categories and you can award a point for each category. Categories include:

"Questionable gender of any performer" and "Performer uses Christian name only - e.g. Sting, Nicole, Severina" , "Singers have matching outfits (extra point if outfits shiny)", "Terry Wogan can't pronounce title/artist" and "Prominent nipples". Well I have checked and so far this song is a runaway winner with a massive 25 points because it scores points in all the following categories:

Bad dress sense
Bad hair
Ugly performer
Part of song rapped
Nonsensical song title (e.g. Biddy Diddy Boo)
Performers wave at audience after song
Song sung in two or more different languages (one point for each language)
Terry Wogan can't pronounce title
Last words of the song actually are the song title (not sure about this one)
Song is an attempt to recreate retro style of music
Entry is an intentional joke
Over-enthusiastic or rubbish dancers
Audience encouraged to clap in time
Animal on stage
Terry Wogan comments on performer's outfit
Song is in style of traditional national song "e.g. Greece using balalaikas"
One band member is black

Take, for example "Everywhere around the world I love you it means the same". Yes dear. It's not Cole Porter is it?

Er - there are few songs enough in French without criticising anyone who tries it. Plus if we banned all the songs in English with rotten grammar and meaningless phrases there would only be three songs left.

The grim news is that this is going to win.

who cares if the French lyrics or the English lyrics or the Spanish lyrics are correct....
Has anyone listened to any of the lyrics of some of our more "established" stars. Sometimes, Madonna's lyrics make me cringe. Having taught languages here in Spain, it is more important for people to communicate and make themselves understood..... and believe me, this song will reach people.

I'm sure that the lyrics in french are correct'cause i've just read this:
"Kamara Ghedi sings the French verse. He was born in Romania to a Romanian mother and a French Guinean father. After his father’s death the family moved to Guinea where they stayed until he was 22 years old".

Does anybody know the name of the song that was sung in the interval by the hosts 3 sud-est? I think I want to buy a copy! That was far better and anything in the actual final

Well even if "partout au monde" is correct French in some areas of the world (but unusual in France), this song remains a bad joke :( Romanian was great with Nicola, Sanda, Luminita and Mihai... But this :(

The romanian entry this year is really excellent !! It's by far my fave till now ... and "partout au monde" is correct french !! Romania will be top 10 for sure ... and maybe ESC will move to Bucharest in 2008 !!

Closet Non-fan not only POlish from Ireland vote for those songs ;-) I'll vote for Romania too, Ithink (in Poland). Ireland in semi final gave us 10 points, you know? But Poland finally was 11th as always. Ireland and Germany are the best Polish partners in Eurovision by now. Of cours after Ukraine :)
Although I can't understand geography voting! :) What do you think about Polish entry?
I suppose like that Romania after good places in 2002,2003, 2005,2006 will be on a good position in 2007. And Ireland as always will be in top 10 because you are Eurovisony talented :)

I predicted that the traditional schlager fans would swoop in to criticise this one.
It is a joke! But it is actually funny and I think it will pick up a lot of votes from the people who like to poke fun at Eurovision. Take note. There are lots of them. LT United would never have done so well without them.

However, this song actually has a cutesy folk melody and people will dance to it.
Regarding Ireland giving 12 points to Lithuania... there is an important Lithuanian community in Ireland, with an even bigger Polish community. If the songs are good, Ireland will always give 10 or 12 to these countries.

Ireland has never consciously sent a joke song to Eurovision... because RTE would never permit it. But don´t forgot that people in Ireland think that Eurovision IS a joke, and will be the first to give points to joke songs. (i.e. Alf Poier, LT United). I am just waiting for Mr Shortt of "Jumbo Breakfast Roll" fame (hit song in Ireland 2006) to enter a joke entry...

I hope Romania do very well. I will be voting for this entry! It has some personality

Sorry : "Partout dans le monde"

"Partout au monde" does exist in French. I guess Locomondo had a little help from some French speaking lyricist from Québec to sing that particular line as the expression is commonly used overthere. Nothing chocking at all then as you can also hear it in Switzerland. I must admit that in France we usually say "Partout de le monde" though... ;)

@ Khalid

I don't criticize your tastes and as we say "tastes and colours are not argued over".

You think it will do well at the Eurovision, I don't. We'll see in May anyway.

It's good that we can express our opinion but of course we cannot all agree :)

Romania is still HORRIBLE ...he he he :D :)

Khalid GR [24641]

Maybe I am pathetic, but this doesn't have anything to do with the song :P
It will do well nonetheless, say whatever you want about it

"partout au monde" sounds dreadful lol Good luck to Romania, they will need it....

I've already said "partout au monde" in my life, Hans :)

@ Khalid

Waoh...How "original" it is to make spelling or grammar mistakes in a song!!! You are pathetic :D

Khalid GR [24641]
Mon 12 Feb 2007 16:50:22

Since the guys aren't french how are they supposed to speak perfect french? Why do you stick to such small details and always try to find a problem with this particular song? The meaning of the song is to express love in many languages, not to show that the group are fluent speakers of them! I also think it is more original to have small mistakes in the languages, because it is more original that way.

Hans van Costenoble [17271]
Mon 12 Feb 2007 16:38:05

A dreadful song and certainly the worst entry ever for Romania :( :( :( :( :(

And by the way, I don't know who wrote the lyrics but in the French part of the song "partout au monde" is not even French! We say "partout dans le monde". Also there is a mistake : it is "tu restes ma seule rose" with an "s" at the end of "reste"!!!

ESC DODO [13397]
Mon 12 Feb 2007 16:37:01

This, along with Denmark's song has 2 options: you either love it, or you hate it.
Whereas I like Denmark, I really don't like the Romanian song.
Under normal circumstances, I'm quite sure this wouldn't even have made the finals and even if it would have, it wouldn't have stood a chance...

But the most important thing is that, despite our personal likes and dislikes, it's Europe that decides... and like I said, they'll either love it or hate it... I fear they might like this really :S

Ayka F [23816]
Mon 12 Feb 2007 16:17:14

However, I'd like to remind you the most of televoters will hear the songs for the 1st time during the 2 nights of the ESC so maybe there will be some surprises... Romanian song is nice at the 1st listening..!!
