Vertigo receives unanimous support in Malta

Malta: Olivia Lewis on the move

In the evening on the 14th of Febuary, Olivia Lewis and the team behind her song Vertigo, met the Prime Minister of Malta Dr. Lawrence Gonzi at his offices in Valletta. The Prime Minister commented on why Vertigo is such a good song for the Eurovision Song Contest, as it contains elements of different cultures, but also represents Malta's tradtional background.

Composer Phillip Vella and author Gerard James Borg, along with the two dancers from Olivia's Vertigo performance were present. They told the prime minister that they look forward to represent the country in Helsinki.

Olivia is constantly reminded of her landslide victory at the MSFE show which happened only 2 weeks ago. She is extremely popular with many Maltese people, and gets a lot of support.

Olivia Lewis will soon be heading towards Lithuania, probably to participate in the Lithuanian national Final, after visiting Cyprus and with a possible stopover in Latvia. In between Cyprus and Lithuania, Olivia will be staying in Malta for three days where the promo video clip for Vertigo will be shot. So far, apart from Lithuania and Cyprus, it has been confirmed that Olivia will be visiting Spain and Greece.

Olivia is singing her song Vertigoin the 2007 semi final, after Malta's disappointed last place in the final last year.

@Little Imp: I don't mind if Malta qualifes again this year but only if they really deserve this top 10 in semifinal, in case some other countries that will have better performances than Malta don't qualify, they Malta shouldn't complain about block voting. They deserved to qualify in 2004 and 2005 but this year my personal opinion is they don't have such good song as those two years. I just don't feel anything special when hearing this song, that's all.

@ Urska: Yes, they did. 2004 and 2005. So thiy year they could stay in the semi and leave a Top-Ten-Place for Belarus, Slovenia, Estonia,... which didn't make it to the finals yet. (Don't take this comment too serious please. ;) )

@ Danniela: Hm, yes, that's an argument.

I still have this song with my few favourites so far and the dance remix is wicked.
Actually, she should take that one to Helsinki! :)

Didn't Malta always qualify to final? I really don't know how could Maltese people complain about block voting then, I understand countries like Andorra or Portugal would complain about it, but Malta really has no reason for that.

Yes Blue Alibi, but it isn't. We all know about blockvoting. Being Dutch myself I know that some countries have some disadvantage. Daniella is right that some countries have to be twice as good to qualify.

if this song was from turkey/ macedonia/armenia/ croatia etc, than it would def be in the finals.

simple no?

But Kylie, unfortunately the Maltese can't vote for Olivia, so it's irrelevant if 90% supports her. I think this song is irritating and the performance is mediocre. But maybe I'm wrong and Europe will love it.

@Urska *Cvet Z Juga*
obviously one cannot forget Chiara...but apart from Chiara yes IMO this song is the best song Malta has ever had...& i am sure 90 % of the Maltese people agree.
Vertigo has wonderful music, original, & simply intriguing....

@ Danniela: Remember 2005 Malta has reached the 2nd place without any voting block! It's the song, maybe the Europeans love it maybe not.

The beginning of this song is interesting, all the rest is boring and quite irritating, I don't like its rhytm and singers voice is also something I have enough of after first minute.
Malta had better song in the past and better singers like Chiara, so I don't know how could someone say this is the best Malta's entry ever.

@ Barzin Bonyadi

LOL ... ahh well honey, What about your country? we see YOUR limits year after year in ESC!
...Malta gained very well positions with or without limits ;)

I don't like it either. I'm sure it will fail in the semis. I'm afraid this will be a huge disappointment for Malta. But we have to wait and see what happens in Helsinki.

"this song makes me feel dizzy!"

That's why it's called Vertigo. *lol*

@ Barzin, a comment in bad taste. Hopefully those are not the limits of your brains. Please guyz - grow up!

We are here to judge a song, not a country. One has to admit that Malta has a very strong entry this year, like I am sure there will be other good entries. For me personally, it is the most interesting I have heard so far. Exceptional music. Well done!
