Daz Sampson, United Kingdom, UK 2006, 2007

"I'll be in Helsinki as a fan"

UK Exclusive: It not Daz either!

Earlier today, esctoday.com confirmed that Morrissey is out of the running for the United Kingdom national final, the fourth annual Making Your Mind Up. Now we can reveal that another hotly tipped candidate is out of the running, that is none other than last year's entrant, Daz Sampson.

Daz had prepared a song called Goodbye with T'pau lead singer Carol Decker and as reported months ago, had submitted it to the BBC for consideration for their 2007 entry. Daz today confirmed to esctoday.com that:

 "The BBC explained that they felt that it might be a little to soon for me to come back, but the door is always open again in the future. As a Eurovision fan, I'm 100% behind what the BBC decide. I am disappointed because I love the competition and I'd love to go again. I know the BBC want to revamp the show and get some more big names, but if it ends up being lesser names then naturally like all UK fans, I will be disappointed. I will definitely be going to Helsinki for the show, just like all the other fans, and I'm seeing everyone there".

The timing is not a bad thing for Daz as he is required in the USA after reforming the band Sporting Rif Raf, which he describes as"a party-pop Chumbawumba type thing". They have produced a track which will feature on the soundtrack for the upcoming latest American Pie movie.

Speaking about the new project, Daz told esctoday.com that "Ministry of Sound have picked it up, there's a deal on the table in Germany but there's the big American deal and I'll be there for a month doing promotion in Los Angeles. We've just finished the new Uniting Nations single has just been finished and is ready to roll as well".

Daz will be publishing the Carol Decker song 'Goodbye' on www.myspace.com/dazsampson next week and esctoday.com have been granted permission to link to the page when the song is available.

You're probably right, Benjamin, but would anyone be surprised if it was true?

Hi Drew!

I just read it and there is some small print which says: "Oikotimes would like to make it clear that at this point these rumours are as yet unconfirmed by the BBC - but we will bring you the latest as soon as we get confirmation or otherwise."

oh goodness! lets hope that was all in the mind of Michelle Bass!!

If the BBC are so unselective in their choices they may as well pick up any old fool from the street to enter.... I despair!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOO

JUST READ THIS ON OIKOTIMES

"The annual soap opera that is Making Your Mind Up continues apace. We can now reveal comments made in celebrity gossip magazine "OK" that former Big Brother star Michelle Bass claims to be in the running. In an interview with the magazine, she reveals that her song is called "Must Be The Music", and is in the final line-up. She also reveals in the interview that one of the people she's up against his former Hollyoaks actor and Soapstar Superstar contestant Lee Otway, who has a new song out on his myspace page. Neither are particular well known for the singing careers, in fact Michelle Bass lets slip that if Eurovision doesn't work out, she'd like to do a naked photo shoot instead....! Tacky? Eurovision? I don't want to kill the joke, but ... It was indeed news since Daz Sampson belonged to the rumoured candidates which neither Hitler or Pol Pot did, or indeed the entire population of China. It would be news in the tabloids if it came out that one of the men who claims to be the father of Anna Nicole Smiths baby were sterile. Or to use a more high brow example, if one of the American presidential candidates, for instance Hillary Clinton, would announce that she is out of the race, that would be guaranteed news. By the way, where were Dolly Parton on that list?

Cheers

i love molly parton!!! a sharp tongue and caustic comments.... brilliant. Diva!!! Maybe UK planning on sending Pauline Fowler to Helsinki.....surprise surprise she escaped the fire and is now running a drag queen bar in the yumbo centre in Playa Del Ingles and decides to enter the eurovision...... This could allow for the BBC to tie in a real event with fiction.........

Bananarama!!!!! lol! That would be funny, if they were featured! I'm not sure they'd be suitable now, however if they enter a song like 'Venus' then it might do quite well. Can't see them being featured though. I heard that Claire Richards from Steps may be doing it.

Unfortunately the fact that someone is NOT going to the Eurovision Song Contest is not news. Here are some other people who are very much not going:

* Hitler
* Nicolae Ceausescu
* Dana
* Pol Pot
* Princess Caroline Of Monaco
* Cilla Black
* Dale Winton
* King Hakon Of Norway
* Alan Fluff Freeman
* Zsa Zsa Gabor
* Danny La Rue
* Kenneth Williams
* Don Estelle
* Esther Rantzen
* Rembrandt
* Mozart (if only)
* Edyta Gorniak (if only again)
* Jamie Oliver
* Serge Gainsbourg
* Anyone from Luxembourg
* Vladimir & Estragon
* The Moscow Symphony Orchestra
* The entire population of China
* The Emperor Of China
* Eva Ruber-Staier
* Thomas Mann
* Edward Heath

Yeah but it is NOT news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hope it isnt brian harvey, we dont need a talentless junkie thanx
id be happy to see jessica garlick or nikki french have a nother go, but its unlikely
as for attracting a successful " current " performer or group, well thats not gonna happen whilst the bbc has this " eurovision is trash" attitude to the contest, and we all know who promotes that attitude every year dont we!

Latest rumour I heard is that Bananarama will be among the contestants in this year's MYMU. Now, wouldn't that be great? They are like made for Eurovision. I hope it just isn't a false rumour...

It's a shame that those singers like Nicki French and Daz who have a passion for ESC aren't allowed back to sing again. Do we really want another Javine? Someone trying to jump start their career for a few months who has no interest in the contest.

Swe Moz [34746]

All props to him for writing the song! The chorus was good. One advantage with the larger national selection in Sweden is that more groups and artists can return to the contest. Many don't do it as serious contenders but just to launch a song and revamp their careers.

Hi Rougemont!

Daz is a great guy. I interviewed him last year for my blog prior to the esc and he was such a lovely guy, genuine and happy to represent the UK. When I interviewed him, you really got the feeling that he wanted the uk to do well and he really wants to represent the uk again. We kept in touch after the contest and he still says he wants another go at representing the UK at esc.

Good Luck Daz for the future.

How lovely is Daz sampson? The man is charm personified, and so supportive of the contest. Probably for the best that he gives it a break though. Hope to see you in helsinki Daz!

Does anyone know when 'Making Your Mind Up 2007' might air? It's got to be 3rd March, as in previous year's it's always been the first Saturday of March....

I have to say I think that London Calling is right. The names I quoted are from someone who knows one of the 3 artists involved and so I guess should be pretty accurate.
Obviously we can't be certain and it could be a wind-up (initially last year they were told Lisa Scott-Lee and 911 were involved!) but I think the kind of calibre of artists mentioned (Big Brovaz, Liz McClarnon and Brian Harvey) is roughly the same as the previous 2 years, so sounds about right.
There is no chance of the Scissor Sisters doing it, just as the whole furore over Morrissey came to nothing.
At the end of the day, the Eurovision is still not taken seriously in the UK, and I am not surprised that the BBC finds it tough to find really big acts who'd want to do it! I mean it doesn't exactly help your future career in this country, does it?!?!
