Anytime you need

Hayko for Armenia

In today's Armenian national final it was decided that Hayko will represent the country in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Anytime you need. A televoting was held to show which one of the seven competing songs is the public's favourite. Nevertheless, the eventual choice was supposed to be made by a jury.

As it turned out, both the telvoters and the jury wanted the singer to be the second Armenian representative in the contest. Meri Voskanian, who was given a 'wildcard' in the second semi final was second according to the televotes.

Hayko is a popular singer in Armenia. He has not only won several music festivals but he was also awarded 'best singer' in 2003 and 2006. You can find the video of the performance as well as the lyrics (along with the other finalist entries) on eurovision.am here.

Music and lyrics of the song were written by the singer along with Karen Kavaleryan. Karen Kavaleryan has already written the lyrics for the Russian entries in 2002 (Northern girl, 10th) and 2006 (Never let you go, 2nd). Furthermore, he has also written the lyrics for the Belarussian enry this year Work your magic. After Thomas G:Son, he will therefore be the second person in Helsinki who has songs in the running for two different countries.

Thanks to André's 8th place in Athens with Without yout love, Hayko is directly qualified for the final in 2007.

At first I didn't like the song at all, becasue I know what a great composer Hayko is and what fascinating songs he writes..and I got a kind of disappointed knowing that Armenians could have done a better job. But then i felt how the song got stuck in my head..and i must confess Ireally like it now!
Good luck Hayko jan!

No. No. No. Why? Boaring, disasterous, very slow, not a tince of rytham. I cannot even enjoy listening it and especially not for ESC. Armenia, you could have done much better!

i personally enjoyed Hayko's song a lot (it's quite a good entry composition for EV, imho). as well as most of the songs that had got through to the final. also, Sargis Edwards' song in the semi-final had quite a catchy tune too. and here's a link to the studio version of "i am my lover's" performed by Vo.X (click on the song title).

Not a great song ARMENIA !!! I'm sorry :-(
Totally agree with some of you, he should work on his pronunciation ....
Meri's voice was amazing but the song didn't sound Armenian :-S Better luck next time....

Good Luck Armenia .....

I found this year's entry for Armenia interesting.. But I already miss Andre. I liked his song far more than this one.
I wish the best of luck to Hayko!

Hurrah! My new bottom placed song - I was beginning to feel sorry for Finland:
1. Albania. Magical & mysterious.
2. Malta. Bonkers!
3. Slovenia. It's like the fall of Communism never happened, hurrah!
4. Cyprus. Dana International, doing Kylie, doing Anna Vissi. A disco stomper!
5. Switzerland. Inspired! Tackles a new and important theme with aplomb.
6. Belarus. Love the Bond intro, but his big nose lets it down.
7. Bulgaria. Raw, unpolished, chaotic. She needs to watch where she puts those sticks.
8. FYR Macedonia. Nice & melodic. Looks so much better with long hair.
9. Norway. She could be Gina G's mum, and that's good enough for me.
10.Netherlands. Great voice & a good tune.
11.Romania. It's easy to like, but doesn't really go anywhere.
12.Moldova. The best of this sort of thing.
13.Poland. It's a messy mix, but she's good.
14.Estonia. A much better song than Finland. Should do 'Star's in their Eyes'.
15.Iceland. Moody, boring.
16.Denmark. He's come straight from the building site. Super cheesy.
17.Belgium. If only they'd included some vampires!
18.Spain. Thank god I only have tickets for the semi-final. Amateurish twaddle.
19.Latvia. Truly horrible. Just when you think it can't get any worse along comes....
20.Ireland. What is this about? Terribly mournful tone. Will probably win.
21.Finland. Silly lyrics. Leave me alone, with pleasure.
22.Armenia. A charisma free zone attempting Scott Walker. Boring.

I´m surprised about Armenia. After a debut with a singer, who reached 8th place with no voice, now a ballad, nothing special, but it sounds pleasant in my ears.
More than I was expecting from Armenia!

Last year's song was a good sond...nothing to write home about, but good. This year's it's one of those that will be lost among all the other similar songs.

Greg Dunn I second your comments. I don't really understand how non native speakers have come up with a verdict that his English pronunciation is bad. I am a bilingual native English speaker and he really doesn't sound particularly bad to my ears.

I personally don't like Hayko's brand of manufactured bland soppy pop but have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by this one. In any event it was the best out of the 20 atrocities ARMTV had lined up for us.

I think it is one of the best songs so far this year and am hoping it will do better than Andre's effort.

And yes he should sing part of it in Armenian as he did in the final. And yes there is a lot of work that he needs to do before 12 May. Camerawork is key!

Yes, I agree that he should sing in armenin instead of english, it's like Ivan Mikulic in 2004, he ruined the song Dajes mi krila by singing it in English on ESC, it was too obvious he wasn't as comfortable with English as with Croatian.

Improve the production and sing in Armenian. The English lyrics aren't great and his pronuciation is poor.
