DORA winner speaks out
Dado Topić will never forget humble origins
Dado said that he and his band, Drago Vidaković, Branko Kušnar, Branko Badnjak and Iva Gluhak, had been treated as "outsiders" by their fellow competitors from the start, and still can't believe they had won Dora.
Below is an interview by Jutarnji List journalist Klara Roman:
KR: Are you happy?
DT: I'm always a happy man. I've got my wife Mira who loves me. I've got two wonderful sons and a job that I love. There's nothing more I need to be happy, although victories, such as this one at Dora, are always welcome.
KR: Can we say that one of your musical dreams came true on Saturday?
DT: Yes. But that doesn't mean that I'm going to stop dreaming now. I've been dreaming since I bought my first electric guitar in a garage in Osijek as a young lad.All these years I've been feeding my need to dream with songs, and I do this with lots of love, patience and courage. This sounds a bit poetic, but I am a poet. For as long as I rememeber I have wanted to be involved in music.
KR: How did you feel when you were announced as the winner?
DT: Confused.And when we were performing the song the second time on the stage of the Crystal Hall of the Kvarner Hotel, at one point I had to close my eyes, because pictures from my memories started to come into my head. I remembered when as a young man in Osijek I entered seven music competitions. My band came last in all seven, and this was because of me. I was a bad singer then. I didn't have a clue. However, I learned a thing or two with time, and there you have it, now I'm talking about what I'm going to do for Croatia in Finland. This is phenomenal for me.
KR: Are you afraid of your placing at Eurovision?
DT: Not in the slightest. I'm not afraid of anything or anyone.
KR: Have you perhaps listened to any of the Eurovision songs you will be competing against?
DT: No, I haven't. To be honest, I have never really followed Eurovision before now. Shows like this haven't really interested me.
KR: Are you going to perform your song Ja vjerujem u ljubav in Croatian or English at the Eurovision Song Contest?
DT: Definitely in English. Despite the fact that we never expected to win Dora, we prepared an English version of our song, which I like the sound of. For me everything sounds nicer in some way when it's in English.
KR: Is this the peak of your career?
DT: Not at all. This is only one step towards heaven.
KR: And where is heaven?
DT: Very far away. Heaven has to be earned, you have to work very hard in order to get to heaven. We are a band which originated in a garage, and we shall never stop respecting the place where we started out. And where we're going to reach from this moment in time, nobody knows yet.

Djeste komsije! (hello neighbours)... I better liked 'Pjesma za novcic' performed on Dora, I find it catchier that 'Vjerujem u ljubav', but hey... All rock fans from b&H will vote for Dado anyway, for sure 
This song is excellent,my favorite so far,but it will be hard to pass the final.Anyway you have my vote and think that many Macedonians will vote for Dado Topic because of his unforgetable song for our country.High points from Macedonia this year again.Good luck

well..i kind of like it..it's not a song which is going to win (i don't even know if you are going to make it to the final) but i like it.Rarely who shares my opinion so all i can say is that i wish you good luck!
Although Croaita will probably get high points from my country (yes, we're neighbours ~sigh~), I personally will not vote for this song. I simply don't like it. Sorry guys! Anyway, I wish you every luck and please bring back Tonci Huljic, he makes the best entries for this type of contests.

I really liked Princeza he has sung in a duet with Slagjana but this one dunno,kinda wierd.

Please Croatia send a petition to HRT and let's have Kraljevi instead, then at least we'll hear your language, but thank heaven Fuckinem didn't get through, they couldn't hold a tune in a bucket!

He was ninety-seven.

I don't really see the point of this song. Dado Topic is great singer, I was at his concert last year and I had great time, but with this song, I think, he's just embarrassing himself. The song is very boring, unfortunately I didn't see other songs, so I can't judge about other songs. For me, this is not good for Eurovision. Anyway, good luck for Dado and Dragonfly! See you in Sava Center on Thursday!!!!
I was hoping we would see Danijela Pintaric in Helsinki. She deserved it. But,anyway, good luck, Croatia!
The worst Croatian entry ever! But... we can just hope and waith for miracle.
Is he the oldest person ever to compete? I think he might be, altough of course we will never find out how old Alla Pugacheva is but that is only fair and right.

Well...There were many songs which were my favorites on DORA...TRIO FANTASTICUS...Dado Topic?Mmm...bad for me and my friends...Sorry...no 1 points for Croatia

U can say what you but u wont change my mind ....i feel the same about IT!!!
If u asking to be fer and without neighboring voting U WONT find this in Eurovision. Unfortunatly that is the world that we live in! U wont find ferness anywhere. I dont want to start talking here about that becouse i will mantion politics and i am very against that. At least `i ve been honest why i will vote for HRVATSKA. Come and kill me then.
If this qualifies it will be because of the neighboring votes. The song is not horrible but come on, there are a lot of better entries in the Semi than this... But I think that Austria, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and maybe Hungary will give high points (between 7 and 12) to Croatia because of 1) Croatians living outside their country, and 2) Neighboring, and this will mean the qualification almost for sure.
By the way, if Croatia (or Montenegro - no comments about the song) qualifies this year and Slovenia doesn't... it will mean the end of ESC.
Good luck anyway to all the countries in Helsinki.

I like this song and I hope they'll improve the performance...
It is very sad hersing Dragon what is going on with Eurovision , but unfortunately don't think that anything could be done . And all those immigrant votes , like Turks in Germany and Holland , Albanians in Greece etc. make me just sick !
That's right Marc W. One of the main plague of Eurovision, the way of, how people thinks....

"i like their song but they haven't voted for my country so i won't vote for them"
"I don't like their song but i love them, so i will vote for them every year"
"This one likes my country, there for i will vote for him/her"
"I like their song maybe but i hate their country... no way i will ever vote for them"
"I hate their song, but what don't we do for our neighbors"
"I am so lucky, i can vote for my own country since i live in another country"
"Monaco is so small country, maybe i should go there during eurovision and vote 20 times for my country"
THIS IS PUUUURRE PLAGUE, AND IS ALL AROUND EUROPE!
I have a bit of mixed feelings about the Croatian entry of this year. Of all the songs I have heard so far, this one is not the best one and it is not in my personal top 5, but I wish Croatia the very best of luck.
My top 5, so far: The Netherlands, Denmark, Belarus, Macedonia and Norway.
ha ha very fair reason to give points to croatia then. this is why eurovision is going the way it is going . you should be voting for the SONGS - not for singers or countries
