Women swing the world

Germany decided: Roger Cicero to Helsinki

Tonight, the German national final was held. During a gala show with many former contestants, three acts presented their entries and the winner is Roger Cicero with Frauen regier'n die Welt. He was chosen by televoting; it was not announced who came second and third.

You can find the esctoday.com live coverage of the show here.

Frauen regier'n die Welt will be the first swing entry for Germany in the contest. Furthermore, it will be the first German entry entirely performed in German since 1998 (the last ever entry performed entirely in German was Du bist by Tie-break for Austria in 2004). The lyrics state that women might sometimes stay in the background, but nevertheless they have their own methods to get what they want:

..."The way they walk and stand
The way they look at you
And yet your bag and your heart get open
And then you buy a ring and a mink

A lascivious look
And yet your policy is changing
No boss and no action hero
No state and no mafia money
Women rule the world

All the stops from coquettish to naive
Yet as a baby they have coped with their father
They give anything if they want something
And you bang your head against a brick wall when they are sulking

They push Beckham and they overthrew Clinton
Without founding a party..."

The song was composed by Matthias Hass and written by Frank Ramond.

As a big 4 country, Germany is directly qualified for the final in Helsinki.

A competition around marks, melodies, texts, dances, performances and radiation can only win who also wants it. And he seems to want it especially - and this is Roger Cicero with his swingnumber "Frauen regier´n die Welt".
Strongly his appearance, hungry his performance, be selftrusted entertainment. The fans of the Grand Prix expects at the ESC 2007 a glamorous Big-Band-Show from Germany . This becomes great!

I am glad ;o)

This is one of the worst Eurovision songs I have heard, its very old fashioned. I would think Germany would want an up to date song such as MONROSE's "even heaven cries". Germany threw away 12 points from the UK because Im posative that we would have gave 12 points for "even heaven cries".

Im quite sure that Roger's song will be in the Bottom. Having a none English singing song is a big mistake.

Uwe B

I am from Monaco not Poland. Not everyone in Poland is homophobic, though you do seem to be a loon. I suppose we all have to like ze German song. And that is an order.

Roger Cicero is PERFECT for ESC in 2007. Monrose and only surely Heinz Rudolf Kunze would also not have been better, I think. Hey... and we sing sometimes again in German! Sometimes quite honestly: has somebody belonged with Lordi last year on English text??? I do not believe. The occur in Europe did not come only by this "Freddy-Krüger-Show" and certainly because of Text. There nobody has nevertheless belonged on Text! It must be laid sometimes again on quality and musical talent worth! When understands europa this finally sometimes??? And for this is just roger cicero perfect! He is live simply the BEST! (Sorry for my bad english ;o)

@ sarah bo
this was one of the best statements I've ever read on this site...

Roger is great - I'm proud of him and I'm proud of my country's choice - what a surprise - I was sure that Monrose would win!
And I think I CAN really be proud, especially when I compare his "quality song" - and I continue in using this word - to many of the selected entries - I'm proud that the song of my home country is the second year in a row among my favourites...

i'm happy with our choice. we knew since weeks, that there's no winner in german final. but we took quality over crab. i would be happy with place 15 !

Hi Arian

Thanks.
Roger Cicero is very successful in Germany, just received a Platinum Record for his Album, but I m twisted about sending someone with a Style that was BEST in the Original (like Frank SInatra, Ella and so on) to Eurovision.
But of course I wish him the Best - and Germany to make a Good Place.
I liked last Years Texas Lightning very much, but they got only 15 between "Acts" and People who could not really SING.
Germany has not the Scandinavian or East-Europe-Balkan Connection.

And the German Pre-Selection must become better again. We have so many great Musicians here in Germany (2 RaumWohnung, Seeed and many more) - there must be more to pick out the Best.

But this Year will be in general better than last year. Last Year I really liked only two Songs: Lejla and the German Entry. The Rest was awful and boring.
This Year are some great Songs around like Cyprus, Danmarc, Spain, Turkey, Armenia and Ucraina - and maybe some more.

No big acts for the German grand prix ?Monrose and Roger Cicero are two of the most popular acts in Germany. Monrose have a number one and platinum selling album and single in no less than three countries (Germany, Austria and switzerland). They have sold in one month, 10 times what past eurovision winners like Ruslana and Helena paparizou and other "superstars" in their entire careers combined. Roger Cicero has a platinum selling album and he is highyl praised by the music critics. Heinz Rudolf Kunze maybe washed up but you could certainly find at least a handful people who will identify him on the street.

The real reason Germany and the other western european countries has done so poorly lately is not quality but because of voting blocs. Look at the list of countries that frequently make up the top ten and the origin of the points they receive and you will get the big picture.

Molly Parton shut up in your homophopbic Poland with your corrupt Kacynskis

Your Songs are the MOST awful. I don t remember one Good Song from Poland.

Patricino Valentino [38429]
Sat 10 Mar 2007 01:25:37

Roger Cicero might be the best act, we could have choosen! Ok, it's not a Eurovision song and glittering Europe won't like it, but I'm sure, he will do better than Monrose (even if I love "Even heaven cries", but the song is too modern) and of course better than Kunze...that was such a blamage! But out of this three acts, he was the best choise...

Our German acts are too afraid of an Eurovision entry! The real good and famous ones...like Sarah Connor, Sasha or Tokio Hotel! These would be "Germany", but there is too much risk for them! No No Never was best selling song 2006 in GER, Texas Lightning had nothing to lose...nobody knew them before! But big acts won't take part as long as there is this *sorry* fuc*ing balkan community or all the eastern countries, who vote for each other...that is so sad...No No Never was such a great song, only got 15th...and shit like Armenia, Lithuania or Croatia scored better...that's simply not fair

However, Roger will give the whole contest niveau togehter with Lithuania this year...alle the other songs are senseless "bang boom bang" or boring titles, without a message!

We won't have a chance with Roger, but we can be proud of the quality, we're sending...

Greetz from Germany!

Can´t you just bake a cake or do your nails, Molly parton.

we all have understood, how hard you try to be funny.

Cicero is classy, neither country nor swing is something that is exclusivly american.
For some people it´s messy, whatever gemany is sending!

By the way, what was Slobodan Milosevic doing singing in the German final? I thought he was dead. But, no, he thinks Die Welt is Pop.

Frank Schinatra. Hmmmm. He's cute but this is so shmoozy and old fashioned. Country last year, swing this year, these Germans think they are yanks. Next year try a bit of zydeco, meine lieben Freunde.

Dear Uwe B*,

I couldn't agree more with you.. Joy was fabulous and it's the best song Germany has ever sent to the ESC. Roger Cicero is an excellent choice though!
