Portugal decided
Sabrina to Helsinki
The show just began, RTP tries to provide a modern showa mix of concert café and coreographic chaos are these reasons to stay tuned? Even if not, the selection of the oldest nonwining country certainly is. Nevertheless the opening act seemed to be lacking on eurovision inspiration.
10 songs in a democratic quest for a ticket to Helsinki. For the first time in 43 selections, the televoting will decide which entry RTP will send to Finland.
The running order is going to be as follows:
- Edmundo Vieira & Filipa Cardoso -Desta vez Plus: some portuguese sound there Minus: hit the notes is definitely necessary...
- Marta Plantier & Os Corvos -Piano piano Plus: a tiny little jazzy Minus: harmony? melody? Where are thou?
- Luiz & A Lata -Aipode Plus: some overseas rhythms Minus: vocals
- Sabrina -Dança Comigo (vem ser feliz) Plus: happy Minus: a bit repetitive
- Diogo T- Chega... foi demais! a vocalist quite left alone with his guitar on stage
- Triburbana -Dá-me a lua Plus: great combination Minus: some note hiting there needed
- Melo D & Elaisa -Será cedo? Plus: good mix of voices Minus: no harmony
- Teresa Radamanto -Ai de quem nunca cantou Plus: some stregth in here Minus: vocals needing back singers
- Vanessa & Henrique Feist- Além do sonho Plus: a melody developing Minus: a broken melody
- Zé P- A ilha Plus: José Cid revival Minus: José Cid revival
The Portuguese audience has chosen: Sabrina singing "Dança Comigo"

Is this it for Portuguese news?
How upsetting... no tour, no publicity, the eternal last row for Portugal. definitely, not a good way to try to win a place in the final.
also we need more people to votte for Portugal on that website http://www.escforever.com
Let's bring Portugal to the position it deserves!!! And the UK as well
)
Please do and tell your friends and family we're counting on them to reach the final. Our song might just win this year - I have that special feeling it will.
Does anyone know if this is going to be sung in English?
After listening to many other songs taking part this year, I have to say that Portugal is not so bad! Switzerland and Malta are simply horrendous...
Good luck to you guys! I'll vote for you from the UK
Not yet, vicky. Probably because it'll undergo some minor changes, specially on the part of the backup singers.
Does anyone know if there's a studio version available?
You can see all about Portugal entry in Helsinki in http://www.eurocronicas.blogspot.com in spanish and portuguese. Thanks for visit my website.
Good luck... although I'm not impressed.
I think that Portugal this year (after listen the other songs...) it is not so bad... The girl is "fresh" and the song is catchy... CONGRATULATIONS PORTUGAL, AND GOOD LUCK!

...IF THEY mix the music and make "Dança comigo" sound closer to this one.
This song just needs some ORIGINAL mix, something that can make it stand out...
FORÇA PORTUGAL!! LISBOA 2008!!!
Good Luck Portugal hope to see a really good result this year you deserve it!
@ flipendo 69:
I guess that you didn't realised that the fact of a particular song wins a National Final doesn't mean it's the best choice (neither televoting neither jury or both choose always the best songs...). We had, at least, 2 or 3 better songs (IMHO) than "Dança Comigo" but... Sabrina was televoting winner, that's all!
Well... It's repetitive, has a too artificial sound, it's ordinary although catchy, very ESCish. I think that we don't have great chances... And you, what's your opinion? (March 11th)
Well, what can I add (March 13th):
It's indeed too repetitive and has an artificial sound (although I really enjoy the trumpets) - hope that they'll be able to improve the sound... a stronger one, with more beat;
it's an unpretentious and plain, simple song;
Sabrina's is cute and sweet (and not a bimba as I probably expected...);
it's quite happy and has gathered more positive remarks than "Coisas de Nada" (ESC 2006)...
...and SO many remarks in the esctoday.com's news page (more than 600(!!!) replies - really remarkable for a Portuguese ESC entry...).
Well, with some revamp/work maybe, maybe can have some chances in qualify to the great final... well, we must Keep the dream alive, isn't it?!
The song is nice but it reminds me of many other songs in this style... Also the vocal capabilities of Sabrina are very modest. Good luck anyway
Sorry Portugal! You will not pass to the final ... If this was the best choice, i can figure out the rest of the songs.
Very bad and oldfashioned song-this would have reached a good place 15 years before...hey, we're in 2007!!! is that, what eurovision want to see? but it's not the worst song this year! at all it's a really bad year...not one really good song...so sad : (
I agree we should consider taking Fado... not a boring song, but a powerful one. I mean, if we're taking "pimba" for the first time, this year, why not taking a genre a lot Europeans outside Portugal enjoy...? See Mariza, for instance.
Lúcia Moniz didn't sing Fado. "O meu coração não tem cor", from 1996, is a tradicional popular song (folclore) with a pop influence.
I think in Helsinki our song should be revamped and Emanuel should bet on the performance's impact, once "Dança Comigo" is a happy song.
To my Portuguese friends, specially João Noronha, I'd suggest a little less euphoria in order to avoid a huge disappointment in May. Anything is possible, but let's not get too excited about it, ok...? We were all very confident when Sofia took "Foi magia" to Turkey (Ithink). The song was horrible, but the others were not much better and still we had a lousy result, as usual. Take it easy.
To cst 003:
I want to bet.
You mean: http://sabrina.portugal.2007.googlepa ges.com/home
yes, Paulo you're right, we sent songs with quality during so many years and just bad results, now we are desesperate so we have to try a style that we never took to ESC to see what happen!
And i know, that last year was terrible with Nonstop.
They also said the song is repetitive, but the goal is to make it come in our minds and even people that don't like it will remember it! I'm sorry Yougoslavia, but the song that won in 1989 is nothing more than repetitive and is nothing special; however i hear it when i'm hearing ESC classics!
Melanie:
I really understand your point of view... i'm a huge fan that is tired to see so many political points. You refered some countries with melancolic songs but with charm that had good placements: we can't forget some that countries receive points from neighbours; we just have Spain, and not always they give us the maximum points. I think it is not fair all years neighbours give points to neighbours, they have to give if the song is good or not, and this is not happening!
Just a few years ago, maybe 2004, Portugal didn't give the 12 points to Spain, it gave to Romania, i was very happy, because then we cannot be acused of political points! but we know that the 12 points to Greece from Cyprus and Cyprus to Greece was just political, even because the cyprus song was horrible (ela ela).
Thanks for you answer!
warm regards from Portugal!
I agree with you Melanie, but not on this years song. Portgal has tried almost everything - quality songs to really bad ones, and sometimes the worse portuguese entries got better results. So we came up with this one ( I believe it will suffer a minor upgrade) which is a popular romantic latin song full of rythm. Portugal has had no entry with this style yet - so let's see what happens.
@ Joao Noronha:
I know what you mean- its also hard for us to find a good song.
but concerning fado, i am not sure if it necessarily was the wrong decision. fado songs hadn't good placements, but that was some years ago, when western europen countries were dominating the polls.. eurovision is changing, an within the last years, a lot of countries especially from eastern europe showed songs with had some special kind of melancolic, but original charm. they always had good placements.
fado is different form the eastern european stile, of course. but i guess that the eastern europeans might feel for "saudade" rather than western europeans do, and its worth trying.
at least, it is a question of origiality.
songs that have a traditional charm present their countries ( they have also to be well done, of course!) new and original songs also represent their countries.
but schlager- pop- songs doesn't represent any country in the world, because there have been thousands of schlager-pop songs within the last years, everybody is singing them, there is nothing special about it, and often times, one even (thankfully) doesn't remember it.
the result of the song contest should be that people get some fascination and interest for other countries.
i used to start learning portuguese because i had heard a very special song in portuguese and it really fascinated me. but would anybody learn greek because of "shake it" ; daenish for "twist" ( or however it is called) ; or, at least, german for "Lets get happy"?
thats why I am so sad about the portuguese song this year- it doesn't give people the chance to "discover" portugal.
greets, Melanie
Os portugueses são assim: unidos! The portuguese are united!
Me, Daniela and Paulo we make a "trio" that is here for everything! WE WILL SUPPORT PORTUGAL WOWOWOWOWOWO
