Mika

Possible comeback for Lebanon

Mika interested in Eurovision entry

Popular Lebanese singer Mika, who currently lives in the United Kingdom, has said that he's planning to enter a song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 - for Lebanon.

Mika is currently dealing with his speed to stardom after his debut hit Grace Kelly reached number 1 in the UK singles charts and is currently due for release all over the continent.

Mika claims that "the songs in the contest at the moment are rubbish", and wants to "raise the level" by entering a song for Lebanon himself.

Lebanon came close to entering in 2005, with Aline Lahoud even picked to sing the song Quand tout s'enfuit. However, due to a mix of financial and political reasons, Télé Liban had to withdraw after the final deadline, meaning that Lebanon theoretically has a 3 year ban - meaning the earliest Lebanon could return to the contest would be in 2009. However, there are other, more affluent Lebanese television stations - such as LBC and Future Television - who could perhaps join the EBU in the meantime, possibly creating a loophole in the rules.

You're right Mike, there are SOME good songs this year on a total of more than 40 songs! So every ESC fan should be happy with people like Mika singing for any country!

Who the f*^k is Mika, to talk like that? Let him come and represent Lebanon, so that we all can laugh of his rubbish song, he'll end up the last. Or matbe he follows Silvia Night's footsteps, the public will boo him! In the mean time, GO Romania, GO Todomondo! "Liubi, liubi, I love you" 12 POINTS! The video of the re-edited song can be seen here: http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=XyJX1ckxYTc

I don't agree with him. I think there are some very good songs in eurovision this year. Ok, it's not your average crop but there are some very classy entries there...

Lebanon won't be in the eurovision whithin the next 20 years. remember why they were kicked out before. they refused to agree to broadcast israel. remember it is against the law to broadcast anything from israel in Lebanon. that won't change any time soon and regardless of whichever company state run or private doesn't matter we won't see Lebanon in the show.

Palestine is not a country, and since this, it won't never participate until its independence. Lebanon could. they're making efforts to recover its previous image.

Guys wake up! Lebanon and Palestine will not enter ESC in the near future, especially after what happened last summer in Lebanon and keeps happening in Gaza right now.

"The songs in the contest are rubbish"?!?!? Has Mika not listened to his own album. Apart from Grace Kelly all the other songs on it are rubbish. I think he's been listening to his critics too much!!! If he wants to sing in the contest he should do so in the spirit of it.

How arrogant! Just because of one hit, does he think he has a right to call other songs RUBBISH! VERY ARROGANT!

@ liam i would also love to see australia enter, but i think because of the time difference it will never happen,, it is a prime time programme in europe and would therfore have to be shown early morning in australia, and if australia won we they would have to present the show very early in the morning

I would like to see Haifa Wehbe representing Lebanon on ESC. Then everyone would finally break their prejudices towards Lebanese music and culture. Unfortunately, I don't think Lebanon will enter ESC soon. They will not recognise Israel or allow transmitting of the Israeli entry, especially not after the war last year.
It's a pity, because I really like both Israeli and Lebanese music.

@Antoni

I think that you should reconsider your statement about Lebanon and the "rubbish they made".
