verka serduchka, ukraine 2007

Lyrics of Dancing lasha tumbai on line

Meet Verka Serduchka

Verka Serduchka was born on October 2, 1973 in the city of Poltava, Ukraine. His real name is Andriy Mykhailovych Danylko and he is a famous comedian and pop and dance singer. He will be representing Ukraine at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Dancing lasha tumbai.

He has been performing under this disguise since early 1990’s. His stage name is a combination of a name he has chosen taking part at an Ukranian comedy contest, Verka, and the real name of an old school classmate of his, named Anya Serduk. His stage personality of Verka Serduchka is an extravagant woman.

He has been chosen to represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song Danzing but after the original lyrics caused controversy when the singer was heard to be singing Russia goodbye he changed the name of the song to Dancing lasha tumbai.

The song  will be sung in 4 languages: German, English, Ukrainian and Mongolian.

Ukraine will be automatically put in the final thanks to last year’s Ukrainian representative Tina Karol.

Here are the lyrics of the song:

Hello Everybody
My name is Verka Serduchka

A couple of months ago I was thinking about the song "Voda" (Water) winning this year's contest. Now that Verka participates, I think that it's going to be either Verka or Elitsa together with Stoyan that is either Ukraine or Bulgaria. I like that Eastern and South Europe takes the lead little by little and they are leaving all the boring western european participations out of the way of this contest. I feel that all the westerners should not rely on the fact that they have created the contest itself. They should act artistically and think in a truly european way for to let everything that sounds pretty american out of the eurovision if they don't want their songs to be more appropriate for "American-vision". And if anyone has any doubts about that listen to last years and to this years songs representing Germany. Last year's song was a country music song with the band dressed like they were playing in a 19th century saloon somewere in Nevada and this year's entry sounds like Fred Astair is going to dance on stage. I'm not saying anything about the true artistic value of the songs themselves because that's irrelevant to the contest itself. The contest needs energy, uniqueness, vividness and freshness that would come to express eventually the true European spirit. The American spirit is equally good and interesting but we're talking about Eurovision here, don't we?! GO VERKA GO
GO ELITSA & STOYAN GO

Have you heard the studio version of the song? AWESOME! Maybe not a winner, but it's a great comedy number. I was shoked the first time I heard the song, but now I can't stop playing it!

@BG
if you keep on like this my friend, i'm afraid everyone will vote every country but bulgaria in that poll 'cause it's getting pretty annoying in each topic, and you reached your goal, your country is nr.1 now, so pls stop that...

nothing against a well-done drag act, it could be very funny on the one hand or really kind of art on the other hand IMO...

but what Ukraine and Denmark are bringing this year - I don't know. There lacks something... Ukraine is rather a comedy-act than a drag show (man dressed as woman, that's not really new and it's not automatically a drag show of a gay actor...) btw, it's so cheap - I want Sylvia Night back, she was at least a PERFECT parody...
and Denmark - I'm sorry, yes, he sings not bad and he seems to do everything to be dressed up really really well - but there LACKS something...
he is not a drama queen, he is not scandalous - I nearly would say that he is kind of respectable which is probably the worst insult in this situation...
not to talk about the song which is a terrible piece of FFF (Friends/Fame/Feminnem)...

I have to say that I'm a little dissapointed. I thought his performance was good and the song was catchy. But the lyrics is what makes the song and this isn't even in Ukrainian or English! It's pretty much in German! And all he does is count in it? His other songs are ten times better and I know they could have done better. So dissapointed.
