Sabrina prepares her strategy for Helsinki

On Wednesday evening, the Portuguese performer at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest Sabrina and her producer Emanuel gave their first radio interview after their victory at the Festival RTP da Canção 2007 by taking part in the Falar Claro radio programme of Radio Voz de Setúbal conducted by Guilherme Santos. This interview programme will be broadcasted on Sunday, March 25th as of 11:00 AM (Portuguese time).

On 7th March Sabrina participated in the 43rd Festival RTP da Canção 2007, and she won the national contest with the song Dança comigo (music: Emanuel, lyrics: Emanuel and Maria Vinhas). Now she is preparing herself for the Eurovision challenge.

Throughout this radio programme interview, the producer Emanuel stated that it will be a very hard task to make it to the final, but that will be possible through a strong commitment and effort from all the people involved in the Portuguese delegation. Besides, it is about a very happy, dancing, funny and optimistic song.

On the other hand, Sabrina expresses her happiness for she is still living her dream which came true. All of sudden, she became the winner of the Festival RTP da Canção 2007 even though days before she was completely unknown to the audience. However, Sabrina shows some disappointment as she was not greeted by the official entities of Setúbal, the city where she comes from. It is the second time that Setúbal sends a Portuguese performer to the Eurovision Song Contest. The first one was Sofia Vitória in 2004.

As far as her Eurovision Song Contest participation is concerned, there are some surprises which are still being kept in secret. The song will be performed in Portuguese but some parts of the lyrics will be sung in English, French and Castillian in order to attract the international vote. However, the bridge will always be sung in Portuguese. Furthermore, new choreography, 3 female backing vocals and 2 dancers will feature the stage where Sabrina will be seen wearing a dress designed by the Portuguese fashion designer João Rolo. In addition to wearing a different set of clothes every day while staying in Finland, Sabrina promises to be available to the Eurovision Song Contest fans and the media as much time as possible.

Portugal is going to take part in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest semi final on 10th May in Helsinki, Finland.

A very special thanks to Guilherme Santos for his contribution to the article.

Portugal has always been one of the most interesting and most underestimated players in the Eurovision game (they've never been in the top-5!). I truly love their entries from '69, '71, '72 and '82 or, more recently, '93, '94, '96, '98. Hopefully they'll make it this year to the top 5 simply becasuse that's what Sabrina deserves.

I have been trying several times....
but it didn't work.

its possible that votes for the own country don't count or that everyone can only vote once.
but I know several people from austria who habe voted for the song....

;)

I agree with Manuel.
It's time Portuguese fans to gather and defend their entry! C'mon, it's not a bad song after all!

the other thing that upsets me is that this and other websites focus much more on some countries instead of other. The news section for Portugal is so limited compared to other countries...

Go Melanie!!!
I've been doing the same for the last week, apparently with no results!
It amazes me that Sabrina gets third on the qualifying poll but is last on the overall poll! It's not fair!
It really isn't, because even though I'm Portuguese, I am well aware that our song isn't the worst, BY FAR!!!

i really can't understand the polls on escforever.com, too-
one can always discuss about taste, but concerning quality, sabrinas song is much better than the one from cyprus, poland, montenegro, Belgium, UK, croatia ...

but forget about the polls and neighbourhood- points. at least, all countries exept those Sergio mentioned are always somehow "running out of competition".
Kate ryan recieved place 3- but only in the polls. And we usually recieve 5 points from england, 5 points from denmark, 2 points from austria and 1 from the netherlands. ( 8 great neighbourship points for Germany, wow ;) )

at least, the best all "out of competition countries" can do is doing their own thing. ( finnland was sucessful with it last year!) and that is what sabrina is doing, you can be proud of her.

greets
Melanie - I call for czech republik, austria portugal- Breinig

PS: I suppose that there are people from south eastern european countries which are always voting for themselves. now i am going and i will vote for portugal, austria and czech republic until they reach place ten ;)

I quite like this - it's a very happy, feel-good song, summery, though admittedly it's a bit repetitive.

I can't see Portugal qualifying as countries withf riends will steal its place, but for once, they deserve to be in the finals at least.

The thing is - this is exactly what Terry Wogan will love - which is as good as signing a death warrant in advance.

Best of luck anyhow. I'd love to see some Brazilian musical breeze in a Portuguese entry soon - that could be a good selling point because of the language, and the uniqueness and beauty of the style. An asset to use, perhaps.

Nowadays ESC means nothing to the portuguese people because our small mind just let us have time to watch football and more football... is like in sports: for many people sport is just football, when i say i don't like football people think i don't like sports at al! The same to ESC: entertainment is just football - nothing else! This country is small not just in area but more seriously in portuguese people mind!

Good luck. I'm proud of this song and of my country.
I am sure we'll do well. Don't let the non-believers get to you.
This is a simple but Eurovisive song, much better that some euro-trash that abundates this and other years.
Unfortunately the Atlantic Ocean cannot vote, so we only have one neighbour to rely upon. The same cannot be said for some other songs. Euro-politics stink.
Go Sabrina, Força Portugal!

Don't take the votes in the escforever site seriously. The votes for Portugal are not counting, even though 3 friends of mine voted 12 points for Portugal. It always remains at 771 points.

This song has nothing to do with RTP's real interest in the esc. It has simply to do with a song that reflects what most portuguese listen to, including the upper class who despise this type of music but listen to it the first chance they get. I know - I have the priviledge of belonging to this so-called upper class!!!!!!!

@ Sergio Rego

I agree totally.

Sabrina's song is nice and she has - what I can say having watched the live-performances of the others - the best charisma and the best attitude to play with the camera. This can even bring an average song high - remember Anabel Conde and Vuelve Conmigo...
What I also have to say: She really HAS to improve her singing, it's weak. But perhaps she can be better supported by the background singers, I think it's possible to arrange this in a way that it's not longer remarkable...

Sérgio Rego [10536]

"A song like that" is better than many this year, better have a goal in mind then nothing at all.

Filipe Carvalho [14065]
Fri 23 Mar 2007 16:44:25

@Hinz and Kunz: keep on dreaming... that will NEVER happen. One of them could be internally selected, but even this is very unlikely. I already said what is RTP's attitude concerning the ESC.

Good Luck Portugal !!! I like your song very much !! I can't wait to hear the new Eurovision version of this song !! I hope Sabrina will go to the final !! I will vote for her !!!!!

I am glad that Portugal is finally sending a song that I like. I really hope they qualify with this.
