"I’m fed up with Eurovision"
Ukraine: No promo tour for Verka Serduchka
Initially, Andriy's first attempt to enter the Eurovision song Contest as Verka was in 2005. Verka tried both Russia and Ukraine but never actually made it. "I've decided, I'll go to Eurovision representing Kazakhstan, let others win too," Verka exclaimed afterwards in one of her music videos. In 2006 another attempt to go to the Eurovision Song Contest via Poland fell through, as Renia Paczkowska decided to go with Ich Troje instead.
In a recent press conference Verka answered the severe critisism she received from some parts of the Ukrainian public who see her as the representative of the country and feel that she projects the wrong image. Verka said that she is already fed up with Eurovision. She made it clear that she is neither the president nor a symbol of the country abroad. All she wants is to present his unique expression of art and show Europe that Ukrainians are happy and fun.
As to the question of whether there are any political undertones in the lyrics of Dancing Lasha tumbay, the answer from the artist is "No!"; the song does not say "Russia goodbye" but "Lasha tumbay" which should be Mongolian according to the Verka. Verka's team reassures that the song is just about dancing, happiness and Ukraine being a cool country.
According to Verka's producer Yuriy Nikitin, there is no point for a promotional tour as the artist is popular in all ex Soviet and Slavic countries. As for the rest of Europe where Verka is not well known, they have decided not to have one there either since the benefit from an extensive promo tour is under question.
The promotional video shoot for the contest entry will take place in the beginning of April, and it will be directed by Semyon Gorov.

famous in slavic countries???
Europe you all should perceive Verka Serduchka as part of hospitable and joy of Ukraine! Ruslana was wild, Greenjolly - politic, Tina - romantic and strong voice & Verka - joyful and a little crazy part of Ukraine! It's different! I mean Ukraine!
Peace! :-)
Today enjoy with Ukraine, United Kingdom, Romania and Armenia in:

Also, you can vote for your favourite song.
Thanks for visit my website.
I love this song! Good luck! 12 points from Romania!!
I like this Ukraine song. I am sure Verka is Elton John though, I cannot see or hear the difference. Even though Eurovision in Kiev had difficult moments, we had a huge amount of laughs there so it wouldn't be bad to go back again.
@ Djamila: You're very welcome, I enjoy your posts too. :-)
Darko: "Inga, you did say "slavic". The Balkans are slavic by some measure. Nobody ever heard of a Verka or some such thing in the Balkans, and my suspicion is that we're not alone nor have we missed much.
And "sassy" she certainly ain't. As she's not touring, she might as well stay home altogether."

I laughed when you said "we're not alone nor have we missed much" - and thanks for the help.
I agree, I don't understand any hype surrounding this song - he's internationally unknown, his song isn't that good, and no one is paying attention. He'll finish middle-of-the-road...
Inga: Yes, the countries I listed are Balkan countries. They call us the SOUTH SLAVS for a reason, you know.
Maybe it's you who needs to get out more...
I hope that Ukraine will not win, because than we would have 20-30 comedy acts in 2008 and I want to hear good music, so let the winner be one, with a good song! Quality instead of comedy!!!
My bottom 3:
3. Turkey
2. Ukraine
1. Israel
Only crappy songs!!!
Yeah she doesn't need a promo tour she will win without it
Go Verkaaaa .... Russia Goodbye ... Ukraine is Coooollll
Romania 12 points
shame on Ukraine to send so a shi....
Just watched the preview video - isn't it great to see Corinna May singing for Ukraine this year. ;-)
Dima Billan came 2nd because he get points from all the countries. There's no way most european countries to vote for that "thing" this year.
@Darko S.
Yea you right, but I think in this article Ex-Soviet and Slavic countries were ment those countries which I named. And I think that Verka will do the same as Dima Bilan - top3. Cause we know Verka the same as we know Dima. She is very welcomed in all Ex-Soviet countries and there are even impostors which come to shows as Verka Serduchka. He/she is a great show man/woman and ESC is all about the show in recent years.
Inga, you did say "slavic". The Balkans are slavic by some measure. Nobody ever heard of a Verka or some such thing in the Balkans, and my suspicion is that we're not alone nor have we missed much.
And "sassy" she certainly ain't. As she's not touring, she might as well stay home altogether.
@Djamila N.
Oh Gosh, do you really think that Ex-Soviet countries and Slavic countries are those countries, which you named. Silly. Maybe you could learn a bit more geography and history. Ex-Soviet countries are Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ex-Soviet countries which are also Slavic countries are Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus. You named Balkan countries...
I hate Ukraine song this year,It's a terrible song...Burck...
Thanks God thah we will not have to tolerate all that torture watching that completely untalented "thing" in Greece. Even cretinism has some limits.
Oh something more! Eurovision is a SONG contest. If you want fun, fun and some more fun you can go to the circus.
It's not nessecary, with 10 ex-USSR countries in the contest...another top-10 for the crap country...
The fact that he is famous doesn't mean that he doesn't need a promo tour. Remember Kate Ryan last year.
And if this wins, it won't be the end of Eurovision. Simply that.
Verka doesn't need to campaign. All s/he has to do is go on stage, struts his/her stuff and make "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" a very memorable experience for viewers.
It looks safe for top 10. I doubt it'll win, though - it's probably too insane and shrill for that. Top 5 seems likely to me, though!
Why does people say that if some odd song wins that will be the end of eurovision???
I will always watch and follow ESC no matter who wins!!!
Why would it be the end if Ukraine wins????
And didnt people say last year that it would be the end of eurovison song contest if LORDI won??....we all now what happend when LORDI won....eurovision goteven bigger and more interesting..!!
ESC FOREVER!!! No matter who wins!!
Famous in all ex-Soviet and Slavic countries?
Really? I've asked virtually every Slovenia, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, Montenegrin, and Macedonian I know and no one has even heard of him, her, it... whatever.
GO VERKA GO VERKA!!!!!
:-)
I never knew how much hate eurovision fans can provide...
