Coaching to realise Mehmet's dreams

Semiha Yankı as vocal coach on television

Semiha Yankı, the singer who represented Turkey at their Eurovision debut in 1975 with the song Seninle bir dakika, can nowadays be seen in a popular television programme: Bir dilek tut (Make a wish).

The format of the programme, which is broadcast by Fox TV, is Idols-like. Each Saturday young participants get the opportunity to present their singing talents in front of a professional jury consisting of singers Emrah and Deniz Seki and journalist Senay Dudek. The 8 participants are all being coached by famous singers. After 8 weeks a winner is chosen, who will be able to realise his or her dreams. The surprising part of the show is that the participants perform with their coaches together.

Semiha Yankı is coaching the young singer Mehmet. The duo spend lots of time together in order to realise Mehmet’s dreams.

All everyone in Turkey and Greece seems to do these days is ask people to shake 'it'. When Anna Vissi starts it I will worry - if she starts to shake it it just might drop right off.

One of the best Turkish entries; it was unfortunate that there was no televoting back in those days...

Turkish first ever entry is a beautiful song. But you have to understand the musical taste in Europe in the seventies. People were not used to listen to dramatic eastern songs. For us nowadays these songs are much more common, but in the seventies the world was much smaller. There was no internet, no Turkish diaspora, no holidays in Greece and Turkey, no MTV. We had French chansons and easy to listen to middle of the road. So beautiful songs like Turkey '75 and Yugoslavia '76 were doomed.

it's a masterpiece
it's actually a "song"

whatever the 07 "singers" pretend to do or be, there's no comparison to talent and amazingness
it's definitely a song to remember, a performance to remember

Great entry from 1975...when the songs was what mattered.

@Urska
I couldn't agree with you more...
the competition was very unfair then.

One of my favourite Turkish entries ever! If you compare it with that shaky-shekery guy this year... Quelle decadence la Turquie!

No, she didn't deserve the last place, just like slovenian song Dan ljubezni deserved much more than 13th place the same year. The results were even more unfair in the times before televoting, it's more than obvious.

Semiha's ESC song was my first ever experience of the Turkish language. I loved the song and still do.
