Croatia : Dado Topic to receive Status 2007 award

Dado Topic, the Croatian veteran rocker who will represent his country in the Eurovision Song Contest this year, will be honored with the prestigious Status 2007 award in April. Dragonfly and Dado Topic will start shooting the promotional video clip of Vjerujem u ljubav ( I believe in love) very soon. The scenario is ready and the video clip will be about ...what else? A rock love story.

On April 11, Dado Topic will be presented with the Status 2007 award for his music career and his contribution to the Croatian music scene. This prestigious award is given by the HGU, the Croatian Music Union. This year's Croatian representatives to the Eurovision Song Contest appeared last night in a charity concert in Osijek, the proceeds of the which will go to the fight against leukemia.
On April 22 Dragonfly and Dado will be making an appearance at the PORIN 2007 Music Awards in Makarska.

A special thank you to Ivan Horvat for his contribution to the article.

ESC radio has Femminem with "Navika" on its playlist.

that SO should have been the Croatian entry this year, it's fab. Those girls have definitely found their style.

The same thing of last year....Awful....Sorry I don't like.

@Molly
I don't understand what you mean. All the vote-rigging is strictly limited to our national finals :) :)

MIlan S

Do you mean "Vjerujam u vote-rigging?"

@ Breaking News

Zagreb have already hosted it once! But I don't think they will have to worry about that this year.

I guess he means that it's not only Serbia starting with a non-zero number of points in the semifinal :)

Norwegian, what do you mean by that "because this is Croatia"?

I do really like this song. It grows on you after a while.

I'm not a big fan of this song, although far from the worst in the contest. But usually Croatia produces better songs than this. Well let's hope for something better next year. Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if this qualifies for the final, because it is Croatia. If it does, it will not do too well in the final and will have to enter semifinal again next year. Personally, I have it 15th in the semifinal, so just there in the middle.

@Edin

Well, I'm not sure where in Opatija would you organize an event such as ESC.
However, Croatia is still due a win, as Closet Non-fan nicely put it - and good luck with it!

I like the Balkan sound and enjoy the ethnic songs a lot. However, this Croatian entry is different and I really enjoy listening to it. It is not my favourite song but it is pleasant. Often it comes up on random on my ipod and I think.. oh, what is this, I like it... then, I realise its Croatia's eurovision entry. Good work Croatia! You're still due a win!

I find such a discussion pointless. It's the best song that should win, not the country which is considered to be more appropriate for organising Eurosong the following year. I believe every European country is capable to host ESC and to do it well. Regarding ESC held in Zagreb, I was proud of it, in spite of some technical problems, I think it was neither worse nor better than those ones held in other countries.
I do like this year's Croatian entry. Well, I must admit that I'm already a little bit fed up with etno songs coming every year again and again from most Balkan countries. I can see that many ESC fans from our neighbouring countries hate our song. I suppose they expected that Croatia would send an etno song this year again but to their disappointment that didn't happen.

@Edin

Ok, you asked for arguments, here they are!

Croatia is not much of an ESC organizer - they showed it in 1990 by their embarrassing faux-pas with Azúcar Moreno. First the backing track failed to play, then it started too early. The conductor completely lost control and the Spanish left the stage. I don't remember any country allowing such a scandal to happen. The organisers from Zagreb embarrassed the whole of Yugoslavia.

And another thing, a country needs to win first in order to host the ESC. With a song such as this year's Croatian entry, I think Status 2007 Award will be the only award for Dado Topic. Shame!

Best regards to Daniel, Darko & Ria

@ Edin:

Sigh.

Let's not drag the past into this, okay?

Stella, fair enough - for as long as we know who invariably provokes a non-musical discussion in any of their posts.

Stella, you ruined totally a discussion.

Now we won't solve anything. I take you'd prefer to have spammers writing political posts every now and then instead of solving people.

LOVERLY.

Thank you

P.S. Urska, my apologies, I deleted your reaction by mistake

Let's talk about Dado & Dragonfly!
I wish them all the best in Helsinki :-)

An embarrassingly bad entry for Croatia this year - itself too ridden with allegations of vote rigging in the national final. There were several superior songs to choose from.

As described by one of my friends (otherwise a staunch Dado Topic fan, which I am too myself, by the way, remembering him from the good old days of "Time" ;) - "it's like an aged rocker's stale piss". Forgive the picturesque description. Probably significant points from Serbia anyhow - altough they will prove insufficient in Helsinki. Hope Croatia does better next year.
