Sweden, Greece, Serbia, Switzerland in the lead
Demandi poll: First results
Fans can vote in three slightly different polls in English, German and French. English-speaking participants favoured Sweden (52%), followed closely by Greece (48%), Serbia and Switzerland. French as well as German speakers consider Switzerland and Greece as hot favourites too.
The rest of the English-speaking voters' top ten is as follows:
Belarus 45%
Cyprus 40%
Russia 35%
Ukraine 32%
Turkey 31%
Bulgaria 28%
Voters who stated they support the UK entry gave some very interesting answers. One third of them (33%) believes that Scooch will do well but they don't have a chance of winning. Another third (30%) feel that they will rank somewhere in the middle of the table. And a large 24% believes it's going to be a disaster. Only 12% believe that Scooch can win this year.
Irish supporters are equally divided. 28% think Dervish can win, 38% feel they'll do well but they don't have a chance of winning and 30% predict a disaster.
The voters are also asked to express their opinion on some of the most controversial issues surrounding the contest, such as neighbourly voting and the features they want reintroduced. As far as the exchange of votes between neighbouring countries is concerned half the voters (53%) feel it's slightly political, 24% think it's not political but just based on cultural similarities and only a disappointing 8% believes that with a good performance you always get high points.
When asked which aspects of the contest they wanted reintroduced, 51% demanded to have the full results read on TV, 34% want the orchestra back, 29% want the native language only rule and 22% want to do away with the televoting and bring the juries back.
You can take the poll yourself here for English speakers.

what do you find in evridiki's song? It's a simple song. It's hard to win. it's also hard to be in top 10.
KING KONG

Thanks Thomas, but if our song wins it will be the biggest joke ever!.
You don't seriously think it's a contender do you?.
the 2007 winner is somewhere in here -
uk, czech republic, andorra, portugal, romania, russia, latvia, denmark, fyr macedonia and armenia
Just thought I'd say hi to everyone, especially if you were on here last year and remember me.
Only heard a few entries so far for this year.
Are there any really strong contenders?.
If so, let me know, & I'll have a listen to see whether I agree....
Love to you all.
@king kong
100% agree with you on bulgaria lol
Where is Denmark
((
My Top 3: Serbia, Greece and Denmark!
Molitva! Gia sou Maria, Drama Queen - any of these 3 are a worthy winner :-))
Also really like: Germany, Estonia, Russia, Cyprus, Spain, Bulgaria, Georgia, Andorra and Netherlands
@Melina*
When there was an orchestra, Eurosong looked more a serious song festival, somehow it had more dignity. Nowadays, with the music coming from nowhere, I have sometimes the impression of watching a karaoke competition.
Thought Id post my opinions on this year's songs. I feel quite disillusioned that so many people seem to think Sweden will win. The Swedish song does nothing for me and sounds very old fashioned.
My top 5:
1. SERBIA to win (by a mile)
2. CYPRUS (very catchy, grown on me)
3. RUSSIA (superb)
4. SWITZERLAND (love the tune)
5. MOLDOVA (such a good song)
6. DENMARK (catchy)
7. ESTONIA (this is a good song but no one mentions it!)
8. MALTA (strong tune)
9. SPAIN (got to have a boy band in Top Ten, lol)
10. GREECE (Catchy but very unoriginal).
Some songs are massively overrated e.g. BELARUS (extremely average), BULGARIA (like this but it's not THAT great), GERMANY (don't get it), SWEDEN (really don't get it).
Last on my list are ALBANIA (what happened?), MONTENEGRO (loved No Name - Zauvijek Moje), CZECH REPUBLIC (waited years for you to join and then you offer this drivel!); bottom of the list by far is UK (doesnt even deserve my time).
@ Vladimir P, which Swedish people you mean..? If you're talking about Peter Eriksson, he's known for hating almost everything, so don't mind him
I haven't seen other Swedes being rude here at all.
i hope that malta will qualify,, olivia has a very powerful song.. good luck malta.... i even like belarus, moldova and turkey and also denmark
hope they will qualify to the final
I have to say I'm dissapointed with the attitude Swedish people here have towards other people, especially towards Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina & Macedonia. No respect and a very nasty language. Swedish music is really good and Melodifestivalen is the best organised national final. But this doesn't mean that other countries' music is bad. Even if someone doesn't like something, this doesn't mean this person should say such offensive things.
"24% think it's not political but just based on cultural similarities" - only 24%, very disappointing!! Because that IS the case... Those who talk about "political voting" use the word political in quite a strange way..!
And Eurovision Sweden, I agree about the orchestra... It just doesn't belong there anymore. Watching old clips, it seemed so stiff & formal even back then...
Malta sweden bosnia russia are shining for me!

I think Denmark may win because of the hype it may cause. In 1998, Dana International was not a favorite, and she won. Why not this year. Also, since Russia and Belarus both have good songs, and Serbia and Bosnia too are fairly even, that may hurt the two neighborly-voting blocks, and the Scandinavian one may prevail. Let's see what happens!
my opinion --> greece is going to be in the top-5 of the final
Bulgaria is also going to do a good job
and cyprus may come first....!

ogi think that's a joke ha?!?
I think Denmark will win!
#1 S E R B I A ! ! !
Just sharing my opinion on possible semi-final qualifiers: Belarus, Georgia, Slovenia, Moldova, Denmark, Hungary, Bulgaria, FYR Macedonia, Andorra + either Israel or Austria.
Orchestra back?! Imagine an orchestra seated next to a hypermodern stage, for example Athens last year. It would look extremely odd. The orchestra fitted in well some years back, but now the contest is such modern that an orchestra would just seem strange in it. Reintroducing the native language rule would be very unfair to all English-speaking countries. That might explain why UK and Ireland have had bad results the latest years, since the rule was spoiled.
Semi-final offers the best songs..No doubt that the winner will be from the semi-final.
I hope Turkey,Israel,Macedonia,Malta, Switzerland,Serbia and Belarus pass the semi so that we can watch them perform once again
Good Luck to those on their way to final
