DQ tops preview event in UK capital

London votes: Denmark!

Danish representative DQ may have a month to go before finding out whether Europe appreciates the entry Drama Queen, but tonight in London, a heaving crowd of fans gave Denmark the thumbs up as the song was voted top of the annual mock preview show at regular ESC venue The Retro Bar.

Denmark won, while Switzerland's DJ Bobo and Vampires Are Alive was runner-up in the extremely well-attended event in the British capital, where Brits and non-Brits alike were presented with the twenty-eight semifinalists, and asked to judge each one on a country-by-country basis.

Crowd-pleasers
Several of this year's entries for May 10th went down very well with the crowd, with Cyprus, Belarus, Serbia and Malta amongst those to raise enthusiastic cheers. The crowd was in a generous mood, however, and most songs received a well-deserved cheer - much as is expected from the live Helsinki crowd on the big night.

The party lead-up to the contest continues in London next week with the Swedish Schlager Party taking place next Friday, 20th April at Loom. For more information, visit our events section from the menu at the top of the page or click here

Next month's Douze Points event at the Retro Bar in London will take place a week earlier than usual, on the FIRST Thursday 3rd May. This is of course because the usual date - the second Thursday of every month falls on Eurovision Song Contest semi-final night.

I like the song and given a good performance it should do well.

Incidentally people who say the songs have grown on them - the people voting on them will be hearing them mostly for the first time so it's not a good sign that a song has to grow on you to be in your top ten.

this dq is awfull: very bad drug act show and a very bad and cheap second rate tune. I like drug acts very much, but he looks like a lad who tries to be funny in a carneval party and dresses alone as a woman..a miserable entry and no way it is going to win, or even qualify.....very very bad, i feel like booohhing :-/)

Darren Smith, yes I can imagine 'the rest of us' voting for DQ. I am one of 'the rest of us' so if the song sounds good live, he'd get one of my votes.

Well, they were all drunk weren't they! The discerning fan will always go for Slovenia. And it's not just because of the gorgeous totty in the video.

ok, that doesn´t destroy my prejudices about the Brits' taste ;)

But I love them anyhow, they in for fun and glamour! While I like some quality added

@Jacques..

Well i agree with you :-)

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but should behave more nicely...it's like a kindergarden in here sometimes.

This is just fun....guys....

And finally..here's a top-10 from me:

1. Malta (This one has really "grown" on me, great song)
2. Estonia (Very underrated, a dark horse)
3. Belarus (Russia 2006 look-alike but still good)
4. Switzerland (Yeah Buffy..go get'em)
5. Germany (Something new from Germany and i like it!)
6. Denmark (Up-tempo and great voice)
7. Norway (Again an underrated song...and overlooked)
8. Serbia (The best of Balkan without a doubt)
9. Netherlands (Another song that has grown)
10. Ireland (Nice and classic irish folkmusic)

Good luck to everyone...hope we'll get a great show on both evenings.

Peter you use many the word "pathetic" in your comments.
The truth it is that you only is pathetic...

Peter Eriksson [28468]

One of the most pathetic entries this year!
He/she can't sing, the song is bad and so are the lyrics!
He/she don't even look like a woman.....when he/she enter the stage on the music-video, I start to laugh, becous it looks like a construction-worker in a dress! So fun!

DQ will not qualify, becous there are not just people who are like him/her who votes!

Go Denmark
You have my vote!

Darren Smith [16869]
Fri 13 Apr 2007 15:27:44

@ chi chi larue:
Ironically yes, I probably will vote for Verka - it's the funniest, most distinctive entry this year and I think has a very good chance of winning. (I correctly predicted the winner in 2004, 2005 and 2006 although I'm less confident this year).
The difference between Verka and DQ is that Verka is a comedy act, a parody - whereas there's nothing particularly funny about DQ.

It was a great night indeed!
I didn't vote for DQ though...

This song will probably get through on tackyness alone, I certainly won't vote for it!

out of all the semi-final songs both are in my top ten just for the pure fact that i can bop along to the tune

DQ will get some votes from sweden I think, but not too many.
As for Malta, I just read that it is climbing really fast in the betting odds now. Good on me, that I placed a good bet on this one! :)
kisses from Stockholm

JASON its not we re anti DQ ... my opinion is the song is ok but not so good i have other favorites songs this year and 2007 is great year if we talk about music

The 2007 semi finals are shaping up to be really strong. The winner, I am quite sure, will come from there. I do not think denmark will shine through, as it is just an average song being sold by a drag act which is nothing special. I do not like the swiss song, but it will make it through to the finals, and be top 10 in the finals. Another song I am certian will shine through just because it is, and sounds so different is Malta. Whenever I have it on my mp3 it gives me a great feeling. The music is so powerful, and the song title is memorable.
The third song I am pretty sure of is serbia. Good song, but the woman needs some glamour potion!

Melina, I totally agree. There are so many good songs this year. Unfortunately, 'Drama Queen' isn't one of them.

And all those who talk about "poor year" - are you sure you are in 2007?! This is shaping up to be the best ESC I remember...

Melina ~ [35728]
Fri 13 Apr 2007 12:37:27

Well, I wouldn't vote for this song... It's ok, I like it, but it's not in top 10...
