Eirikur talks to esctoday.com
People who knows a bit about culture will know that the Icelandic are strong and not that easy to shake. They will also know that the Icelandic do what they want to do and doesn’t go with what others might be expecting. Eirikur Hauksson is no difference despite the fact that he has been living in Norway for many years. Esctoday.com asked Eirikur the obvious question why. What made him decide to play this double role and is he prepared for the reactions this might cause among the other competitors?
Eirikur Hauksson admits that he might be a bit crazy, but as he is pointing out then he is just being himself. In the interview he is explaining his reasons for doing these shows and he is making clear that he does have 100% respect for all his competitors despite that he might not personally like their songs.
Esctoday.com is also able to reveal a bit about what we can expect from his performance in Helsinki and then Eirikur has a very clear message to all of our readers: look at the competition with a twinkle in the eye.

@ Melina: Thanks! Maybe it seems unrealistic now but Alenka could surprise us! I'll be voting for her but yes, I would be happy as well if one of my other favourites wins but only a victory for Slovenia would make me really, really happy!!
---------------------------
to Iceland: He definetely deserves to be in the final with this wonderful rock- ballad and as he is quite experienced, I think he'll be able to perform very well in Helsinki!
Anyway, I have doubts that Iceland makes it into the final because this country seems to be quite unlucky at Eurovision... but from the quality, his song is definetely under the top ten of the semi- final! Furthermore, he is quite charismatic and his English pronunciation is better than the pronunciation of many of the other artists!
i have seen the performance many times because although i had never liked anna vissi before, i was very moved by everything,,her performance was great..and i know it was not only the greek audience which was singing along with her...friends who were in the rehearsals and in the final told me that almost all of the foreign guests were singing alone..out of tune was she not..she sung the song excactly like the studio version and with more passion,,,i am tellng you everybody is still wondering about her 9th place..i think people just did not like the idea of seeing greece winning for the second time in a row or that the song was a bit slow for their taste...
to island now: i have just heard the english version of the song..it sounds better, and it is indeed a nice ballaf...but i do not know if he will be able to present it well on stage...he doesnt lok particularly good and he does not make the impression of a really wild rocker to me..let us see what happens..
Of course everybody was singing it, because it was in Greece xDD
And she sung out of tune and without breathing. That's obvious. See the performance in Youtube
anna vissi never lost breath while singing, that is wrong..she sung with passion, power and soul and the whole stadium was singing along with her...i and many people still wonder why she came only 9th in the end..well our topic was actually icelands entry of this year: well this one we havent heard it live, have we? neither have we heard malta''s vertigo live, have we? so still that is what i call passion not this..anyway iceland will surely remains in the semis and that is good so!
@ Florian, no, you're not the only one - I hope it too, but it's quite unrealistic... And Iceland is my nr 2. But if any of my top 10 would win, I'd be happy...
@ Pau:
Thank you for the "2008 for Slovenia"! It's great that I'm not the only one who wants to see Alenka WINNING! I'm listening to "Cvet z juga" all the time- it's such a great piece of music sung by a real
musician! I simply love this dramatic song and her voice. And Slovenia would be a great host country!!
I also hope that Iceland gets into the final! Erikuur is very charismactic!
If ANYONE would have the balls so be in the preview-show AND compete...now that would be Eirikur!
Nikolas, I'm sorry but both of them, Anna Vissi and Olivia, are quite weak over the scenario.
Didn't you see Anna Vissi out of tune last year and without breathing?? The scenario was too big for her, although I consider her a good artist and the song was on of my favourites until I saw the disappointing live performance.
Hope to see Iceland passing this year!

vote!!!
Eirikur's song is THE BEST ONE ! High-quality,strong,powerful ... I hope Serbia will vote for Iceland !
However,the best one of Iceland!
@Melina:
it is my right to consider lordi as clowns....and in my eyes they were clowns: what is it some people dressed like monsters who scream falsely in a pseudo-hard rock melody and they have eyes that sparkle red? nothing more than carneval!! and this carneval did win the whole contest leaving behind nice songs...
to the icelandic entry now: it is my right not to like this one..and if you call this passion, that is funny> Passionate was anna vissi and everything on stage, and passionate is Olivia and vertigo from malta this year..that is for me passion..and if you do not agree, you do not need to attack me on a personal level, when you do not even know me..and yes i think this guys looks a bit like lordi even without a mask!!! i do not like this entry..people bring back silvia she was and is a misunderstood godess :-) no way this boring song pass the semis
Eirikur deserves to qualify for the final. He's in my top 10, though i'm not so confident that he will qualify... Anyway, his song is great
Ola said it right!
I totally agree with Eirikur in this interview...both the performers and above all the fans should realise that ESC is for FUN, nothing deadly serious. Eirikur has understood that the Nordic previews are also just for fun, nothing else - what if all the fans here could learn that as well...!
Iceland has one of the best entries this year, I think. On of my votes will definitely go to Eirikur!
GO ICELAND!! Continue to go your own way!
Hmm... I'm sad. iceland uses to be one of my favourite countries in Eurovision but never achieve a good result, although its songs are much better than others. This year, as always, we have the same problem. This is a very good song but I really doubt about its qualification. Good luck anyway Iceland!
i repeat this must be in icelandic which sounds more powerful than english!!!
GREAT SONG !!!! One of my favorites !!! Good Luck Iceland !! I will vote for you !!!
Iceland have an amazing song for ESC this year. The song makes the hairs on my arms stand up when I hear it. He isn't what I would call typical Eurovision material (but then again I think those typical days are mostly gone). The song is very dramatic and I hope, I really hope that Iceland qualify for the final as I would love to see this song doing well.
Iceland and Malta are my personal favourites this year, though I think Malta is more stronger. I like the icelandic song in a different way.
@ Nicolas Vertigo, you are the one who's actually the clown... (Lordi were no clowns, like Silvia night was...) And that bit about him being "Lodi without mask" is getting really, really boring... Get ove yourself, if you can't appreciate great music & a charismatic singer (read my post below), then that's your loss! But stop annoying people with senseless comments like that.
I like it a lot but unfortunatelly it has no chance to qualify
no way this entry is gonna pass the semis....it is nothing special and the guys looks like a real lordi without any mask...anyway iceland had two very strond entries and it didnt manage to qualify: the fantastic if i had your loveand the genious congratulastions(according to e this should have won last yeas contest as sylvia was a much wittier and a better concived clown than lordi), and still it didnt qualify, s i see no reason why it should qualify this year
He'll never better what he did with Icy.
I have so much respect for this man (although I don't agree with many of his opinions about the songs
), he's just being himself and doesn't mind what others say about him... He believes in what he's doing and that's enough for him. And although he's not handsome in the usual sense, he's still very charismatic, especially when performing...
I like this. But i'm afraid it won't qualify. Sorry Iceland.
I like the English lyrics, it's good that he'll be performing in English!
I think Erikuur has a right to give his opinion about the other songs, the other artists could do so as well.
And these ratings on the TV- channels don't have any meaning, they just reflect the personal opinion of a few people.
Good luck, Iceland!
This song is better in english, but I don't think Iceland in final this year.
