The most expensive Finnish video ever

Opening video details known

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 will open with a 3 minute video directed by Antti J. Jokinen and features Lordi, Kalevala mythology and Lapland. It will set the mood for the rest of the show with Lordi following it live on stage and Apocalyptica performing in the interval act. So, there won’t be the usual touristic postcardlike presentation of the host country!

Antti J. Jokinen is a well known music video director who has done videos for Missy Elliot, Anna Vissi, Wyclef Jean, Anastacia and Tiziano Ferro just to name a few. He directed also Nightwish’s Nemo video, that was the most expensive video in Finland until now. This new one passed 200.000 euros. “I just got everything I asked for” he says “so if someone doesn’t like the video I am the only one to blame!”. The video was shot over a three days in Rovaniemi and Lapland and features all Lordi members and actor Jasper Pääkkönen.

When I was asked I had my doubts but decided to go for it, not because YLE asked “The best in Finland” even if that felt very flattering but because I know Tomi Putaansuu for many years already.”

Antti J Jokinen studied film making at the University of North Carolina. He won the North Carolina Film Festival with his short film “A Fist Full of Sand” and was discovered by music channel MTV, where Antti later would work and make his real break through by making music videos.

On his return to Finland he co-founded Solar Films, which has become one of the biggest film production companies in Finland. Jokinen has directed and written several TV series in Finland and abroad.

Maybe Santa & Reindeers show up in the opening video, filmed in Lapland... but I don't believe Moomins will be seen this time.

I'd love to see Nightwish or Tarja Turunen at least, but well, interesting news. Eurovision needs to actualize, and Finland will do it after all the typical folk we are used to see in the videos.

@ Peter E

You just have to check it out when it´s broadcasted, then. Maybe THEN you´ll get what the meaning of an "opening video" is.... ;)

Yes, I don't understand Peter's comment either :)

(And in case anyone's wondering who Tomi Putaansuu is, he's Mr. Lordi ;) )

Peter could you explain a bit...I think it's good there isn't much more touristic stuff than Lapland, with some Finnish mythology.
And Lordi itself comes from Lapland.

I don't understand actually?

I have really great expectations, as like the article tells, he was the one who directed Nightwish’s Nemo (if you want to check it: url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAKf1gTx7qM]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAKf1gTx7qM/url] - great video!)

But maybe they shouldn't reveal all about the opening video in advance, so it will be a greater surprise to all viewers ;)

Great! It sounds more and more like a unique show, nothing typical touristic expected.
With Apocalyptica the show will be more rock (with sellos though) than schlager but hard rock is Finnish national music :)

This sounds great :) And I like the fact that there won't be touristy postcards this year. It will make the contest stand out more from the recent ones. (I loved the postcards in Tallinn, the best so far)
