Dado Topic:Heaven for me is the stage and the audience
Dado Topic, composer, lyrics-writer, arranger, guitar and bas guitar player, is one of the most popular rock singers in Croatia and ex – Yugoslavia. When an artist that strove to stay away from commercialised music decides to try out for the Eurovision Song Contest, it is only natural for us to want to find out why.
In the middle of the final preparations before he heads for Helsinki to sing Vjerujem u ljubav together with Dragonfly, Dado kindly took the time to answer our questions. In his interview he tells us what his idea of heaven is, what is that made him try for the Eurovision Song Contest, which song he thinks is a winner and what he thinks about the lyrics of Valentine lost.

I didn't hear yet the Croatian song for this year so i will not make a judgement about it obviasly... I just wonna say that Severina was really great last year... MISS YOU SEVERINA!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
All the best to Croatian team in semi-final!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love this song... we can be last in semis... i don't care
Of course nobody should be ashamed of their national representative - harsh words. But what was indeed shameful about No Name's appearance in 2005 was the way they bullied their way through in the NF, worse still how the same stunt was attempted again a year later. And the song itself was little else than a drunken afterhours provincial restaurant belter imho. But hey - a lot of water under the bridge since then - and we've cut our losses meanwhile, hehe.
@ANA S
I'm Croat too but I don't feel ashamed of our this year's entry no matter what result it will achieve in Helsinki. I felt more ashamed last year when our song sounded more a sort of joke than a serious song.
You hadn't reasons either to be ashamed of "No name" in 2005 because guys were excellent. The rather high place they reached in the finals proves that too.
This song is surely not the worst but not the best too...
WHO VOTING IN DORA? THE PEOPLE?
I'm a Croat and I'm ashamed that we send such a big piece of *** to Helsinki
I will fly the flag for Serbia
Next year...we will win this contest...
Apparently I belong to the minority who likes this year's Croatian entry. Dado appears to be a very sensitive person, a musician throughout. I hope the best for Hrvatska this year.
Kavafis (other spelling Cavafy) is one of the most sensual and philosophical Modern Greek poets.

Dado Topic could be sensitive or not - (I don't find anything touching in this song) - who is surely not at all sensitive, is the girl of Dragonfly which is singing with him...
She seems to be such an arrogant woman... Even when they won, she looked like "yes, of course, we are the winners - who else?!". Only for her, I'm hoping Croatia will be behind all the others this year...
i dont like the croatian entry at all!
I stubbornly choose to remember Dado at his heyday - the seventies. This comes across as a bad dream to me. "You'll never know how much I love/need you" must be the most threadbaren and overused lyric in the history of pop, so I can't take it into any serious consideration.
Don't know what to think about Croatian entries in general. I'm definitely not a fan of stuff like "Neka mi ne svane" or "Maria Magdalena" (both are just obnoxious to me) - I've a feeling their entries don't reflect the lively domestic pop scene at all. This moribund rock ballad is marginally better but is old pants nevertheless.
The preselection came up with the promise of Femminem or even Marko Tolja - sadly they stayed behind. Oh well....
I felt deep pain when he won Dora 2007...
I can hardly believe that he isn't sensitive since it's him that wrote the lyrics of the Croatian entry. You may or may not like the song "Vjerujem u ljubav" but it is very emotional - speaking about deep pain because of unrequited love.
@ Eric l, sensitive or not, from his comments I can see that he has very good taste
Believe me, he is not sensitive at all! Quite opposite! On the radio show "Turky Party" on Croatian station HR 2 he said for Kenan Dogulu: "This turkish GIRL doesn't know to sing!!!
And he obviously thought that esctoday.com is the Greek ESC site! Do you really think that the rock singer would say Sarbel is going to win? Yeah, right!
@ benji, I don't think Eirikur spoke about his entry with "utmost contempt"... I watched that part, and even though he didn't really like it, it wasn't contempt. He's much too nice a guy to be like that
I'm glad he spoke so positively about the lyrics of the song "Valentine lost". In spite of the fact that the Icelandic representative Eirikur Hukson, in return, expressed himself with utmost contempt about the Croatian entry.
Wow!
He seems to be a very sensitive person
I love Kavafis, and also the croatian music!
He's very good-looking for his age (57)..! And seems very charismatic. Just a pity he's not in with a stronger song!
