A question of money
Slovakia: "We hope to return in 2008"
Elena Mallickova, head of international relations at Slovak broadcaster STV, has confirmed that STV is currently very interested in making a return to the contest in 2008. She stresses, however, that STV is one of the smallest members of the EBU in terms of revenue, and therefore finding the budget for it could be a struggle. Despite this, she remains hopeful that we could see a Slovak entry in 2008!
Whether or not there is space for Slovakia, however, remains a different issue. Svante Stockselius made comments suggesting that 42 is as much as the contest can take at the moment while in Helsinki, however he insisted this time last year that we would absolutely not see over 40 countries in Finland - so who knows how things will develop! esctoday.com will keep you posted on all events regarding 2008 participation as they unfold.

Marino; why would you love to see that? Svante would keep his post, but the ESC would be in trouble. Anyway, it makes no difference if there is 42 or 43 countries in the contest, but it makes big difference for the country who wants to compete.
this has no relevance to this subject, or any it is posted on , but how much would peopel liek to put on that the country that wins the next contest will be a) a relativly new country or b) a country that has not won the contest before, frankly, because of where the contest has gone too, i could see Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro or FYR Macedonia winning

I think that if Italy were to return they would win just on sheer popularity that they are back in the ESC.
I really don't think there is space for any new countries unless some withdraw.

Why can't Slovakia also get the chance? And how do we knowItaly and Luxemburg would send good entries? Another Big4 country won't be popular, no matter how much they pay...

I don't mind Slovakia being in the Eurovision. It is a European country, furthermore an EU country. It's the presence of Central Asian states which are all voting for Russia and for each other which I'd rather not have.
Stay in Bratislava!!!! Don't come back to Eurovision. Why doesn't the EBU concetrate on getting back the veterens who made eurovision like Italy and Luxembourg instead of old Communists who just vote for eachother?
Well they havn't bothered for 9 years, so let them wait for another year. In 2009 there finally be room for Slovakia in the contest!
Am so looking forward for the new format in 2009.
To me 2008 is just something that we have to get over and donw with, and let the real games begin in 2009

Slovakia is good for Hungary, Croatia and Czech Rep. only, who cares about what they will sing, its all about the votes now.
Great Great News! Slovakian entry in 1998 was very good, "Modlitba" is one of my favourite in 1998. With this wonderful news, I hope to hear the same news from my country, ITALY... It should be great to know that in Belgrade 2008 there are Slovakia, Italy and Luxembourg too... About Kazakistan or Azerbaijan I'm not very interested... they aren't european countries but asian countries... and it will be wonderful to see San Marino Republic too in Eurovision 2008... but we can't know this now...
i think juries will be better for a fairer result, but i do like my influence in the contest - maybe i should be on the jury 
i think 50/50 jury would be best.

eurovision is a farce now . i have been a fan since the seventies and im truly losing interest . such a shame when people like svente cant be bothered to put things right . i suggest the proffesional judges come from 24 countrys not involved in europe . ie australia , india ,china , usa, brazil , argentina , pakistan , new zealand , japan , south africa , kenya, canada, argentina, egypt, bolivia, mexico, north korea , south korea,indonesia,saudi arabia, ethiopia, nigeria, peru, chile.
in my opinion this is the only way to find the best song from europe . of course there will be some slight bias but never enuogh to affect the final result . what do people think ?

Indeed, Slovakia got 8 points in 1998, all from Croatia. I do not know if televoting was used that year in Croatia, but I do know that quite a Slovak minority lives in Vojvodina and Eastern Slavonia. So maybe an early example of block voting?
id love slovakia back, i think they should make the top 12 from 2007 go into the final automatically, and so there is 26 in the final, and then cut down the semi final, because 28 songs was too much.
As you can see in my profile in 1998 I had Slovakia on the top of my list with an amazing really marvellous song!
So pitty only Croatia awarded it with 8 points and that was all..

Also Russia and Belarus exchange 12-points. Moldova and Romania too. The contest will be ruined by these biased votes 
And I hope Czech Republic and Slovakia will not be the new Greece-Cyprus 12 point share or else the contest will be just screwed!
