1998 winner wants another round

Dana: 'I would definitely do Eurovision again'

The 1998 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Dana International, gave an extensive interview this weekend to Yediot Ahronot paper, for the occasion of her new album's release last week. Dana told what she has went through in the decade since her Eurovision win and reveals she still has Eurovision plans.

For the first time since her victory in Birmingham in 1998, Dana International is experiencing real success with her new album when the first 2 singles went straight to the top of the charts in Israel. In this interview Dana tells about her post-Eurovision depression. "I used to whine and mope about how I failed to enter MTV once again after 'Diva'. But then, I realized that for someone with my background, its a miracle I had actually reached the position I was in. When I was younger I never even dared dreaming of reaching MTV. Nothing stayed the same after Eurovision", Dana says.

When asked about her Eurovision experience and if she would do it again, Dana International gives a straight answer, after she has been quoated several times in the past she regrets her 1998 adventure. "Of course I don't regret doing Eurovision! I'm even thinking of doing it again!", she declares. When Dana is asked to refer to the changes that the Eurovision Song Contest has gone through, since 1998 (more than 40 countries competing and the block voting) and the chances of winning again she seems indifferent. "I am not thinking  in terms of winning or not. The Eurovision Song Contest is a TV show which enjoys enormous popularity and high viewing figures. Even if I end up at the 18th place I will be able to use if for my benefit. Even though I'm a former Eurovision winner, I will know how to turn an 18th position from failure to success".

If Dana International's hinting towards the IBA wasn't clear enough so far, the reporter asked her straight forward if all that it takes for her to represent Israel in Eurovision again is a phone call from IBA, she does not hesitate answering: "Absolutely! I will happily go to Eurovision again. I would go, compete and fight against all my competitors there, but also has lots of fun, just for myself", Dana says.

Besides winning the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest for Israel, Dana also competed with 'Diva' in the contest's jubilee all-time contest in Denmark in 2005 and reached the 13th place.

@ I am the last diva on the planet
Shame on you! How on eart you can thought than I don't like Selma because of her nacionality??? I can't belive what you wrote!
Anjeza Shahini is 100% albanian, so what? I think she is a great singer, but Selma is terible singer and performer with bad songs, that's why I thing she is a bad choice.
God, girl, what is in your mind?

It´s quite disgusting how she changes her attitude so fast. What a Snob ! You should´ve seen her film about The Journey To Congradulations and the transy just bitches about how she has nothing to do with it, she´s too god for it and her attitude that she doesn´t want to be like all those has beens around her. It´s not good enough for her stature. Now she wants to come back ???

She was undoubtable the most exciting Eurovision winner since ABBA (i say that because Celine Dion only came through a few years after winning), Europe for once was excited about a eurovision winner, and she had just the right sound and potential to break it into MTV, but she was too snobbish about it.

I really think Dana is great but i hate her snotty attitude.

I don't like all the former winners coming back. It's very unlikely that she will repeat her success. But if she wants, well, everything's better than Carola....

Chiara will not comeback for Malta in 2008, because she is pregnant, but Dana definitely beat Chiara in ESC again , as she did in 1998. Dana is 10000000000 times better than Chiara. And she was 10000000000 better in 1998 too. :P
Good Luck To Israel!!!

Israel could easily win again, the country has so many great composers and artists. If IBA want to win, they will.

It's not sure whether the top three of the Israelian Idol will represent the country. I think discusion is still open for it. Dana could do well again I suppose, if she got the right song. Whether Iba will ask her, that might be another question.

IBA said that the winner of the Kohav Nolad will represent them in 2008. Is it true????? Or not????? What do you think who will be the winner?????? I hope that IBA will choose somebody good. I really love Israel. Their best performer in ESC was Shiri Maimon. But I loved Davd D'Or, Lior Narkis and Tal Sundak too. And of course Dou Datz from 1991, and Rita from 1990, and Liora.... OMG a lot of great Israeli singers. Good Luck Israel!!!!!
I think that Israel will be the first country which annouce the singer..... And I think maybe in December there will be a "national final"... The singer (which was chosen by the IBA) will perform a few songs...... :) :P

becose one of the 3 finalists of the Israeli pop idol 5 will represent Israel.
Boaz Maoda
Marina Maximilianne Blumin
or
Shlomi Bar-el
good luck to all of them in the big final next week.
all 3 of them are great preformers.
the best pop idol finalists since 2003.

I really love Dana in 1998, but I think that she will be failed just like Selma in 2005 or Kate Ryan in 2006 or DJ Bobo in 2007.

Eurovision Song Contest is not good for professional singers. It is a good opportunity for young, new talents.
Anyway I don't really want to see Dana back. Let give the chance to anybody else, because I think that there are a lot of new talent in Israel too.

well, I really do love Dana. her new album is really good, "Love Boy" became a huge summer hit in Israel and her next single "Sipur Hodi" (indian story) is going to be the biggest hit from this album.

BUT

Dana isn't amazing vocally, she's not Shiri Maimon and not Carola. she tends to sing out of tune, and she's a gimic more than a singer.
Maybe with the right song she'll reach high, but I doubt she'll win again, due to her bad singing...

@ William Francis

And you also forgot the un-denied queen of the group, the one that should be erased from ESC's map forever.

Of course, talking about CAROLA.

You are puting words in her mouth, esctoday, she says she is THINKING about doing it, not that she definitly wants to.

Makes me think, when you have won eurovision, and been fetured on congratulations, surly that means, you have made it, right?! Why do they need to enter again (somthing the olsen brothers and helena Greece 05 think about)
