HRT gets hit for 10,000 CHF
Croatia fined for breaking rules
The EBU have confirmed to esctoday.com that the fine was handed out “because they violated the rules and decided in the last minute not to broadcast the show live on one of their main terrestrial channels, as the rules clearly states.”
In the week leading up to the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Bucharest, a joint investigation between esctoday.com and partner website www.eurovision-croatia.com received assurances from HRT Croatia that the show would be broadcast on the terrestrial channel, however the show was only broadcast on a satellite channel with very few Croatians able to see it.
The steering group had the choice of fining the Croatian broadcaster or banning them from participation for up to three years for failing to broadcast the 2006 Junior Eurovision Song Contest live on terrestrial teleivision after giving specific promises to that effect.
It was clear last year that Croatia would not be participating at the 2007 event, so imposing a ban would not have had an effect. The financial penalty is not too severe, but with the change to the 2007 rules, relaxing the broadcaster’ mandate to air the Junior Eurovision Song Contest live, it could not be to severe either.

If you don't wish to to take part in a political discussion, you shuoldn't have started one.
Anyhow, my discussion was geographical
I do not wish to take part in this political discussion.

'even geograficliy, Croatia is not a Balkan country.' lol

http://en.wikipedia.(...)e:Balkan_topo_en.jpg
to "Eurovision 2008":
"...its bad for a Balkan state not to enter ESC since it's one of not so many chances to present something to Europe."
??????????
I didn’t quite understand this.... Do you speak about your own country?
It is very sad for any country, that ESC should be only chance to present somethning to Europe.
If it is the only way for your country, than you should all thank God for ESC. I am so happy for you!
But please, don’t include Croatia in this, because culturaly, historicly, and even geograficliy, Croatia is not a Balkan country.
A ti Nikola idi na lijecenje...
I don’t think Croatia should ever again participate in JESC, or the ESC for that matter.
ECS is no longer what it used to be, so why bother at all?
We had our golden decade, back in nineties, when ESC still meant something.
Thanks Kevin and Surrey Guy.
I must say, what do itv expect by putting it on itv2, plus there is the x factor on at the same time. Of course hardly any people are going to watch it.
@ james
most people in the uk have itv2
whereas this is not the case in croatia
itv do not broadcast it any more, beacuse they did not have enough people watching it, even on itv2
@ James Jarad..the rules might ahve changed since then. That might be why ITV doesn't broadcast the show any more.
Tako im i treba!!!!!!!!!
ITV broadcast the show on ITV2 in 2004 and 2005. Thats a satilite channel. Why punish HRT and not ITV? Is it because ITV showed highlights of the show on ITV1 the next day?
