Sweden's press tip 'Superduo'
Carola and Andreas top rumour mill
It was already some time ago that Expressen reported on Carola’s wish to return to the contest, just two years after a successful fifth place at the Athens event. After the “fiasco” of The Ark’s disastrous seventeenth place for Sweden in 2007, the Swedish press seized upon the story at the merest hint that super-schlager singer Carola would sweep up the broken dreams and return Sweden to its former successes at the Belgrade contest next year. According to sources, she had already contacted Christer Björkman, former Eurovision representative himself, now responsible for Sweden’s Eurovision Song Contest entry each year.
Speculation fuelled
Now, Expressen hails the new “Super Duo” Carola and Andreas, fresh from a recent pairing in the show “Så ska det låta”. While a Melodifestivalen appearance together would play right into the hands of the enthusiastic press, official sources remain tight-lipped. Anne-Christine Blixt of “Så ska det låta” merely teases the press secretively: “I cannot say anything about this at the moment”, neither confirming nor denying – and continuing to fuel speculation. Equally, nothing has been forthcoming from the Carola camp either, with a tantalising “no comment” from representative Ulrika Hammar.
As for Andreas Jonsson, quotes are easier to come by to support a possible return. After last year’s Melodifestivalen, he mused: “the first year I came third, the second year I came second, so the next placing could be really good!”
The song itself, written by Andreas along with Peter Kvint, is the only given part of the equation at this moment in time, forming part of the 3,500-strong pile of entries which SVT’s secret jury will sift through in readiness for the national selection.
The bigger picture
Although rumours are currently dominated by fantasies about the über-duo, they are not the only names to be running through the gossip mill. According to Expressen, the list of names below will be involved in some way in the 2008 event - whether they get through is one thing, and whether they will actually perform as singers is another. Intriguing suggestions include the appearance of Shirley Clamp, Sonia Aldén and Sanna Nielsen together; would all three form a Swedish super-girl group to perform the entry together? Former Swedish and Norwegian representative (and 1985 winner as part of Bobbysocks), Elisabeth Andreassen, is down on the list too, in a possible Swedish comeback after her 1982 entry as part of Chips. Norwegian golden oldie Wenche Myhre is also tipped for a comeback - fans will remember her from Norwegian selections of old, and as the German entrant of 1968, who came sixth with Ein Hoch der Liebe in London.

Carola is no " superstar " - not even in Sweden. She`s just a MF star but no star of modern music business ! Other Swedish groups and singers are much more successful - she`s just a relict from the past and popular among some ESC fans, missing the " good old times ". Younger people don`t take her serious....
i hate both carola and andreas
can we get something new in MF to win, like with The Ark, who said they'd never do MF and did and won, that was amazing!
YOU ARE OUT OF TOPIC...
Dear Peter Erkisson
I ll not comment u re rudenes against East countries no matthers which countrys are in issue... where did u learnd beein so xsenophobic are you learnin that in scool or its mather of home behave, and swedish manners
For me Eurovision is contest for fun, meetings good friends, sharing music learnin about other countries and its all taste of music with wich u could agree or not or discussed but without hate couse it lead us in blinde street ...
Anyway if i offend any swedish fun with my opinions please take my apoligies but ill alwais say my opinion ... u could like it or not
Peter Eriksson
Have you ever been outside of Jämtland? Or even abroad?
Anyway, I hope that Sarek wants to return to the MF! The contest needs more Norrlandic and Samic sounds!
Bepo Batinic:
You shouldn't say anything about Sweden, becous you doesn't know anything about Sweden! You have to live here all your life and be a Swede to understand this country!
We doesn't fly "Tre Kronor" at half mast when we looses in the ESC, but we got a huge interest for the contest(wich the East is breaking down)... nd we're almost every year robbed in it, we deserve almost 80% of the times to be in Top-5!
And it's Sweden who have built up this contest, it's mostly becous of Sweden the name "ESC", had at least a few times been heard outside Europe/Eurovision region!
ESC, without Sweden(and the others in the West)= No ESC!
its intersting how swedish people when you disagree with them just start givin names as swedophobic ... do u ever listen yourself ? How discriminate u sound the country whos alwais on top 10 when we talkin about tolerance ... verry intersting ...
Amina and Carola where good 91 i love Amina song better but thats my taste of music.
Dislike Carola couse shes fake in all ways would like to know what has incommen church and Eurovision ...
You people from Sweden are really weard if u re not in top 5 u re flags in all country are on half way as it country mathers not just competition where we all would love enjoy music differentes and uniqe common issue ...

Edsilia has so much more style than Carola! Yes, the song was old-fashioned, but nevertheless, one simply has to adore Edsilia.
I agree togravus, I really like Sweden and a lot of Sweden's music (especially what is called the Swedish House Mafia), but I dislike Swedish schlager. It is so oldfashioned. I can't stand that the same people who 'attacked' the Dutch this year for being oldfashioned, are often the same who love Carola and her kind of music.
And I was so disappointed with the Ark's bad result this year. For me it was a possible winner.
it would be amazing to have Carola back but Im not sure that she would return so soon. I would prefer something schlager but either way Carola can't go wrong she is a fantastic performer who is a true MF and Eurovision legend. Any comments people keep referring to were taken out of context. Carola is not homophobic and many of the people who work for her are gay. Sanna, Sonja and Shirley sounds exciting as does Mans also hoping for Linda Bengtzing!
I have never used the word 'stealing' on this thread ...
@ Peter Eriksson
Don't be ridicuolous. Not everybody who doesn't like Carola is swedophobic. In fact, I really like your country and some of it's music (like in every other country). Fortunately, I haven't met any raving patriots when I visited Sweden. So, please, calm down. This is about music, not about countries.
Have to agree with Björn here. France and Sweden got the points that were given to them (eeeeeh....obviously
) and according to RULES Sweden won cus they had the most 10-pointers. So there is no need to say the word "stealing" here.
"Stealing" is a too strong word. Carola's win was fair and square after the rules. And she was a worthy winner, coz the song became a MF classic and she a superstar in her own country, which can't be said about Amina (even if she has a very good voice).
Well, the most important thing is that Sweden won in 1991!
No one can blame Sweden or Carola for "stealing" the victory, why? Becous WE won! Respect that you all Swedophobic loosers!
Sweden is BEST! "Endast Sverige, på dess mark"!
Well, we see the old question passing our brains over and over again...
Amina's song is - in MY opinion - miles better than Carola's sing-a-long-Swedish-styled Euro-Pop crap...
In this year, I liked France very much, furthermore Israel, Portugal and Cyprus...
Germany brought one of the worst songs in its ESC-history to the Contest in this year...
@ sandra åhlander
If you hate Amina's song, it tells more about you than about 'C'est le dernier ...' And I am not talking taste here, I am talking quality. It is not my favourite song from the 91 contest. Those are Portugal and Isreal.
I couldn´t forgive Amina if she had stolen the victory from Carola! Amina´s song and performance was real CRAP!!!!! I HATE IT!
I'm Brazilian not swedish and me and my family think taht this is the best news of the year....I think u have to see taht it will be as big as the UNIVERSE, and I know we didn't heard the song yet... but come on... Andreas will write the song and this will be great, and Carola is not taht old... and here in Brazil we usually say..."don't change the player if the team is winning" so...Carola again is a good idea, maybe she is not famous in europe... but one think is true europe, Carola's songs shakes europe ! Everybody liked Invicible, the song and the performance =) and she didn't win in 2006 just because of the rumours that she would be homophobic and of course Lordi got all teh nordic votes
@togravus ceterum
No, I can't see the special. I really have tried, but sorry. At least it was better than Israels song that year. The fact that France and Israel could ever compete about the victory will be an eternal mystery to me, but 1991 was a very strange ESC year.
@ Björn
You can't find anything special in Amina's song? 'C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison' is the most sophisticated and intelligent song that has ever made it onto an ESC stage. And those brilliant lyrics. I might actually like Carola (except for 'Främling' which to my ears and brains sounds like a stupid German 80s schlager), if she hadn't won in 1991. Sorry, but I will never be able to forgive this utterly unjust disgrace ...
I think Amina´s song was real crap!!!!!!!!!!! One of the worst songs EVER in ESC history!!!!!!!
@pissa rreira
Yes, I know that many are angry for Amina's loss. But I (I've really tried, by listening to it a million times) can't find anything special in Aminas song. It is nice yes, but that's it. However, it's just my humble opinion.
Also, what Carola's 2006 participation showed is: all alone she'll never win again. The contest has grown so much that to win you need to get points from most of the countries and that means you need to be liked by everybody in every country. There are millions of people who can't stand Carola. That's why she needs Andreasnow: to avoid Carola's bashers attention.
@Björn Lin.
Some people, just like myself, hate Carola, because they've never forgiven her for stealing Amina's victory back in 1991 with a nil-points-margin. Let us not forget either that Amina simply had one of the best songs this contest has ever seen, if not THE best song ever. So, it's only natural that not everybody is happy when she decides to comeback. Finally, i think all her 3 songs are rubbish and i simply can't stand her voice.
I read in teh papers that in connection with demonstrations against the increasing violence among young, Carola will hold a speech in a church about it today. So she is really not a rude person.
At least seven "Idols" will enter in 08, this is a nightmare!
Anyway, I think the "3 S's" sounds interesting! All these girls is amazing singers and persons. I actually think they are the best singers in Sweden!
But I'm still "The Pessimistic one" here at esctoday.com! So I think the MF next year will end up as a completely disaster, where you don't have to have a good song to end up high in the final. Just a big name, or to be a "Fjortis- favourite"!
