The Oinoussian Gala

Anna Vissi in London charity concert

After a series of successful gigs in Amsterdam, Brussels and Johannesburg, Anna Vissi will be visiting London to play an already sold-out charity concert at the Royal Opera House this Saturday 3rd November.

Anna, has had a busy October performing in Amsterdam, Brussels and Johannesburg and working on her new album expected to be released soon. All three concerts have been great successes and the popular Cypriot singer feels she has accomplished her goal to "seduce the non-Greeks with the Greek sound and make them feel Greek during the concert".

The European concerts were dedicated to the Greeks that suffered during this summer’s tragic fires that swept the country. Surpisingly, half of the audiences were non Greek coming from Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK and Germany. Anna surprised her fans by singing Elton John’s Sorry seems to be the hardest word, a song she wanted to sing since she was a child- “…well actually not a child" she laughed.

Her next scheduled appearance is on Saturday 3rd November when she will perform at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London at the Oinoussian Gala. Anna will be accompanied by the 35-piece London Philarmonic Orchestra in the first part of the show. The second part will see a solo performance of Anna’s greatest hits to date. The blak-tie event is already sold out with the tickets reatailing at £200 each and the proceeds will go to the Oinoussian Benevolent Fund.

Anna will continue her European 2007-2008 tour next year with concerts in Sweden, Switzerland and Germany, more information on venues and ticketing will be announced shortly. Anna Vissi is one of the greatest stars in Greece and homeland Cyprus. She is estimated to have sold a total of almost 10 million records in her career spanning three decades. She is very familiar to Eurofans as she has taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest three times already, twice for Greece in 1980 and 2006 and once for Cyprus in 1982.

You can watch videos from Anna Vissi’s recent concerts through her official MySpace, here.

this contest has much fun i really love but comeon its not a song contest its more a show contest. So anna never won but its ok never mind. the first two times was two young and in 2006 she chose a wrong song. Anyway anna is a great artist. She is the most popular artist in greece and cyprus the last 15 years, her concerts the most succesful and her funs the most mad and crazy about her.
Besides anna is a very rich woman receiving more than 10000 euro a concert and having more than 30 mil. euro in her bank account without houses around the world.
How many eurovision winners have managed that?

@DAN WILSON

We will see what will happen. That has been recorded/rumored for a while now, especially by the request of famous DJ VIC LATINO who loved that song when "Call Me" came out (he was one of the DJ's that promoted it the most and made it number 1).

Hopefully it gets released since "Agapi Ipervoliki" is a great song. But IDK what type of music she is working on in LA lately...

@Greekboy

Thanxx 4 the info,mate!

I've also heard that Anna & her producers intend to release her smashing EURODANCE hit single : ''Agape Hypervolici'' in English, RMXed by a famous D.j

It's not really a new song. It's been recorded for years now, and it was leaked in a club and on the net as a cell phone recording in bad quality. And then last year it got leaked online in good quality somehow so they were forced to release it.

Her new music will be great. She has been working in LA on new music (possibly English) for the last year or so. Some say she will be coming back with a "double hit" in 2008 releasing a Greek and English album at the same time.

Danniella, Im not trying to change anyones opinion. Im just trying to point out why people are getting mad over his comments that he keeps instigating.

Speaking about Charity, she gives ALOT to them. In the 90's she did a whole bunch of charity concerts, even dedicating one of her CD sales to charity. She wrote a song about a little girl that was a big fan of hers that died called "Eleni". Very big hit...

She is a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry down to earth person. Like I said before, you can see her going out and doing stuff just like any other person. At concerts, she LOVES audience interaction often calling people up and going into the Audience and singing with them.

She went to Eurovision and failed. OK. But that dosnt make her any less of a star here in Greece and Cyprus. Not to mention "Everything" was the only of the 3 that was composed by Nikos Karvelas. (and yes, I think the song has big part to do about a SONG CONTEST, aside from the performance) But I gaurentee you if she didnt have her winter shows, she would have done a WHOLE lot better in ESC. Her voice would have been just like the studio version live. Like I said before, there are videos of her singing it live in March at her winter concerts and she sounds amazing singing it live. I also bet the vote would have been higher if the Microphones picked up the stadium singing along to Everything. (They did, but not loudly. There are videos of inside where everyone is singing along. Such an atmosphere.)

Now Hasta, the point people are trying to make is that this article is about a Charity concert in London by Anna Vissi. But it seems you are hijacking it and keep saying she lost at Eurovision 3 times over and over again. We know that already....but that dosnt matter to the people of Greece and Cyprus. It didnt hurt her career at all. (Actually the media and people had more respect for her after getting a good placing) They are also saying that people should not judge her on her Eurovision performance only. She has done alot of great things in her career and amazing concerts/voice. Amazing music. Try youtubing some of her concerts and you can see.

And no, she is not a "plastic Madonna wannabe". She has her own style, and changes her look every time she puts out a new CD. Its one of the fun things about her. Just google her CD covers and you can see. And every time you say "Plastic Madonna", to me, it sort of seems stupid. No way did Madonna have a voice like that....And no way did Madonna sing Rock and Laika, and all the music Genres Vissi sings.
(woooooo. That was long :P)

Also, at concerts most of the audience are fans of the singer. In ESC, no one in the audience likes almost all the songs.

I don't particulary like her music nowadays, but then it must be said that not many singers have had a successful career for so many years, even if it's esp. amongst Greeks and Cypriots. Therefore I must agree with Greekboy that she shows that you can be a successful singer and not do well at Eurovision: winning the contest is not equivalent to being successful and popular.
And isn't it great to see this lady (even though some people claim she just loves money..) taking part in a charity concert!

Hasta, if we say you are right, will you then give it a rest? So Hasta, you are right about EVERYTHING you say about Anna, Carola and the exchange of votes between Greece and Cyprus, now in the past and in the future.

Anyone with me. ;-))))

I will say one name: Nana Mouskouri. She didnt win Eurovision, and went on to be one of the best selling artists in the world.......

Of course Anna isnt Nana Mouskouri, but it proves that you cant judge someone by Eurovision.

he's just bored and knows nothing to do with his life lol... if i dont like an artist i wouldnt even click on the news to see what's up cause is the least thing that inetersts me.

Anna Vissi gave an amazing performance in Athens altough could had been better vocally... but an artist isn't judged by a single performance... still she has an amazing voice and Everything had so much passion in it!! if you don't like it, as if we care dude!!

Anna you stoled thousands of hearts by eurovision and thank you for give us so much emotions on the night... and that what counts

Anna Vissi
The one and only :-)
People outside Greece and Cyprus keep judging her for her esc performances. As every great interpreter (not only a singer) she is having a lot of fans but also a lot of enemies. People should judge only after having the experience of one live show of hers. After that moment someone can say if she is excellent or awful. During her 30 y.o. career she have performed so many different styles of music. From greek style to american ballads. From greek traditional music to electronic music. Also rock operas!!! She is multitalented person.
As far as it is concerned her performance in Esc 2006 i must remind to some people that Anna Vissi was the only singer among all in 2006 that was performing every night in a 4 hours non stop show in Athens from November 2005 to April 2006. Although her voice was very tired she made an excellent performance. For the foreigners she was exeggerating. That is another story. Some people didn't like the way she performed that's ok for me. Noone can say that vocally wasn't great.
Anyway i'm not the one who must convice some fans about her talent. Her career speaks of herself. She is Number One for 33 years.
Anna, Athens night life misses you!!!!!

I was not a fan, loved her second song "Mono I agapi"... My partner is Greek, we live in london. As a surprise I bought tickets for her concert, not knowing what to expect... I have seen so many concerts, so many different styles, but Anna's performance was just magical. She gave it a 100 %, was on stage for over 2.5 hours, went into the croud, hugged people, talked to people she recognised, let people on stage with her and the songs kept on coming..... Her voice was very strong, she looks absolutely stunning.... and Bjorn, about Carola (liked Framling) I only want to say that she comes over as an unnatural creature, whatever she says looks like written by a scriptwriter, she maybe a star in Sweden, over here she is absolutely nothing but a kitchy, desperate singer on his return...

Funny that people welcome news about this performer, who never had real success in ESC (even though she IS a fabolous singer) but get mad as soon as they read something about Carola. Well, the winners are often too envyed by many...

Yes. Anna is a VERY down to earth person. When she is in Greece, you can see her enjoying a movie at the local mall just like anyone else...

@ Hasta uninteresting:

I met ANNA in Brussels and she's far far far away from cold & arrogant, she's such a nice & sweet & caring person. She took time for her fans before the concert and she was nice & caring during her concert.

How can you write such BULLSHIT?????
