Winner of Kohav Nolad 5
1st Eurovision artist: Israel sends Boaz Mauda to Belgrade
Channel 2 will arrange a 'private' national final for Boaz Mauda. 5 songs will be selected for the public and a special jury to vote on. The same format was used last year for the selection of Teapack's Israeli entry, and has led to winning Eurovision Song Contest songs being selected for Helena Pararizou in Greece in 2005.
Boaz Mauda (20) won the recent season of the Israeli Pop Idol, Kohav Nolad, with a landslide victory. Mauda is said to have won Kohav Nolad due to his amazing vocal capabilities. Click bellow to watch one of Boaz Mauda's performaces during Kohav Nolad 5 season.
The decision not to arrange an open national final with various contestants was probably made in order to insure that the failure in the viewing figures of the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, which were the lowest ever in Israel, will not be repeated in 2008. The plan was also troubled by a number of high profile former Idol participants ruling themselves out of participation. Before the decision to select Boaz Mauda was taken, news leaked that the competition may be opened up to non-Idol singers.

What confuses me most is that he looks like a bodybuilder but has a voice like a 5 year old girl. Opposite images are not good for a singer.
I agree with Colin Henwood..
I like his voice very much but he needs to work at his presentation will he make a chanche..
one of my favorite songs from him:

Well, let's see what song he's gonna sing. Sometimes even the most ****est performers can be well ESC representatives..I mean, look at Ana Nikolic

@Milan S.
Thanks ... A new faster world is open!
I think Israel could have done better than this...another Kdam would have been a much better decision in my opinion, or at least more interesting.
I hope he gets enough votes to compensate his great vocal abilities though.
OOFFF he's a bit of alright!!!
I've missed sooooooo much, my computer hasn't been working!!! AHHHH
I'm toooooooooooooooooooooo sad about it.....
I'm going to cry.......
Shiri , why didn't they choose you???
And what about her new english song Angel??
Third year continiousingly(?) a bad thing for israel....
it will be interesting to see what kind of song he gets, think an upbeat one will be better
He was not m first choice for Israel this year. I hope for a god song where he can show off his vocal capabilities, and stage presence.
I like his voice
I MISS ONE LETTER HEH
GOOD LUCK ISRAEL
if song will be like this one on you tube israel have my vote
GOOD LUC ISRAEL
He has a vey good 'pure' voice but there is no evidence of any personality at all of the performances I've seen. They need to give him an upbeat number to sort that out otherwise I don't think he'll make it past the semi's...
HIND WILL GO FOR THE NETHERLANDS..THEY JUST SAID IT ON TV!!
Boaz is Uniqe. too much unique for Eurovision trash contest.
the reason why Boaz will not make it is: people today vote for show and not for a song. he is not the guy to give a boombastic show on stage, so unfortiantly he can come with the most buitiful song but an old drag queen with a chicken voice will preform her "lasha tombai" while shaking her big ass and people will love her for making stupid things on stage will vote for her and this is how she will steal the glory from Boaz.
the only things will stand for good to Boaz in the semi and hopefully in the final are:
A-good ethnic song (like hari mata hari or Zeljko Joksimovic).
B-his uniqe voice
C-horny gay voters and teen-age young girls voters who adore sexy guys like him.
@cooler
We are happy for your cable net!
I've just watched this Youtube link (yes, I finally got cable net
)..
anyway, very talented singer, voice is just perfect though his key is strange, but great as it is.
Watching quality artists on ESC is very good thing itself
Good luck, I don`t like the voice though.....
I find his ethnic style contrived and totally lacking in conviction. His voice is just an awful whining mess. Israel, you can do so much better than this.
meir tzur, I only mean well.
I've never met him so I can't say whether he's modest, but surely that's a decisive quality.
ugly darko- please, save your nasty comments to your bitter self.
boaz is a charming, modest, touching guy, with beautiful voice. almost too good for this competition.
just hope that the right song will be picked for his.
and of course- we are talking about israel, so i don't realy expect someones symphaty. such a shame.
was he the one how couldnt sing on saturdays?
or was that someone else?
If "amazing vocal capabilities" mean "sounding like a woman wearing knickers three sizes too tight", Israel has made the appropriate choice.
Don't wanna spoil the party but this guy is goddamn awful. Could you send Shiri to Belgrade once again, please.
I agree with Dragan, and I see that Pop Idol stars representations are gaining ground in every broadcaster. Unconfirmed sources claim that ERT will support Kostas Martakis for Belgrade...
I don't like an idea of sending young and unexperienced talent show star to the ESC. But, let's wait for the song.
looks kinda hot and sexy, but is it enough?
good singer hope he has a good song for belgrade
