Junior Eurovision Press Conference

The opening Junior Eurovision Song Contest press conference has taken place in Rotterdam, Netherlands today. Hosted by the organisers, the EBU, host broadcaster AVRO and UNICEF. Saturday night's event was discussed in detail.

Svante Stockselius, the Executive Supervisor of the contest, highlighted the new elements of this year's contest: "Four new countries joined, and we especially welcome them," he said. Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia and Lithuania joined the Junior Eurovision Song Contest family this year. He also reminded everyone that next year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Lemesos, Cyprus, on the 22nd of November, 2008.

Ms. Ingrid Visser, director of UNICEF in the Netherlands, thanked the EBU and AVRO for "the great and professional cooperation." She also highlighted that UNICEF and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest fit very well together.

José van der Mark, Executive Producer of the show, gave some big numbers about this year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest. "We are very proud that the EBU had confidence in us, and that we are now able to present you the 2007 Junior Eurovision Song Contest from Rotterdam."  She told that 7,500 meals are being served this week, that 14,000 meters of cable is being used behind the scenes, and that some 8,000 people will attend the live show, as well as the dress rehearsal tomorrow night.
