Albania: press reaction on Festivali i Kėngės

Several Albanian newspapers have come with different articles and comments for the Albanian festival that took place last night at the Congress Palace of Tirana. In general, the Albanian press seemed not to be very happy with the outcome of the competition.

Newspaper Koha Jone published an article with the title “Accusations to the festival, the organizers 'hush'” on Sunday. In this article, special mention is made for  Blero  and his sudden withdrawal from the festival accusing the organizers of “selling” the festival’s first prize. The article continues to say that this kinds of accusations is new to the organisers of this event who chose to make no comment.

The same newspaper published another article today called: “Sudden disqualifications at the 46th  Festival”. In the article, the artists that didn’t make it through are mentioned and one of them was popular artist Rovena Dilo who reacted immediately after getting the news by saying: “This is totally absurd”. The same article reports about yesterday's press conference and the response of the jury to Blero's allegations: jury member and composer Gjergj Leka stated that the jury has been very transparent and that there was no truth whatsoever in the allegations. Mr Leka claims that the jury has been threatened, especially jury member Agim Krajka had received threatening messages such as “you’ve got to send this song to the finals; otherwise you’re going to pay”.

In the same press conference artistic director Edmond Zhulali claims that he knows the truth about Blero and his accusations. Mr Zhulati says that he received an sms on his mobile phone from Blero that said: “Mondi! (short for Edmond) Tell the festival director that if I’m not going to win tonight, I’ll withdraw.”

Albanian internet media www.balkanweb.com published an article today called “Festivali I Kenges 46, the 16 year girl, that challenged the professionals“. The article compares the victory of Olta Boka to the victory of Anjeza Shahini in 2004 by saying that history is being repeated and that Olta, same as Anjeza Shahini, did challenge the best known artists by running away with the first prize.

There have been thousands of reactions by the Albanian population and yet, very mixed ones. Most of the reactions made on www.rtsh.al/festivali are angry comments for the jury’s vote, especially targeted on jury member and previous participant of the festival Mr. Alban Skenderaj. Most of the comments say that they are very disappointed in Alban, because he “didn’t give any points to the song of Flaka Krelani & Doruntina Disha, so they ended 2nd and not 1st as they deserved“. But there weren't only negative reactions; there are also many people thinking that Olta deserved the first prize and that she is going to be able to  live up to the expectations of Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest. Probably the most positive comment to be found was: “If this song does not become the winner in ESC, it is a winner in Albania“.

Many thanks go to Roni Klein of OGAE Albania for his contribution.

This story will not lay to rest, that's for sure...the TV, the press and the internet are all buzzing. Even RTSH had to come forward and admit there was iffy voting that needs to be discussed!

This is supposed to be the best FIK ever, but who thought before and during FIK that these things are going to happen after FIK.
I can’t believe this. When you read the newspapers these days, it is like awwwwwwww….!!!!!!!!!

Alban Skenderaj has been disowned by the public because of this and he shouldn't have messed with his career this way. But it's true, Festivali I Kenges can make you or break you.

In this case, Olta Boka's fake win has ruined her career before it starts, Alban Skenderaj's boycott will hurt his popularity tremendously, and Gjergj Xhuvani doesn't have much of a career anymore...but as far as RTSH is concerned, after the way he destroyed their best festival to date, he can kiss that network goodbye. And he won't be that lucky getting sympathy anywhere else, because his name has become the synonym of vandal and traitor, and no one will want to see what he has to offer!

this is my comment

as far as Alban Skenderaj is concerned, who became popular firstly in Kosova and not in his own country Albania, it is my proposal to all Kosova Albanians, to boycot him and his songs.

The festival administration has reacted and this shady victory and jury voting will be contested!

People, i dont get it talking about politics in this beautiful forum
i am from Albania and watched Festivali Kenges, the Festival its b...hit definitely there were few songs such as Kthjellu - Dhoma that was the most modern and Rock song suitable for Europe and Eurosong but they choosed another song sang by a girl which is 16 yrs old, she will get scared from Erusong Stage because she is too young and the jury was completely out of choosing such a song for the event.
I am telling you guys once Kosova gets to qualified for Eurovision the all Europe must take care what they are choosing because they rockk

I actually don't think the song is that bad.. I think its 100 times better than last years "Hear my Plea". That song was so painfully miserable... This years song has at least a nicer melody I think, and they will fix it and make it a lot stronger in time for the contest in May! It has potential.

For once more a very bad song for Albania...

I just said that the Kosovo don't have anything with ESC, and that politics should stay out this forum.

You should really work on you're attitude, I didn't insult you with anything...but you're behavior tells so much about you, so I am done arguing anything with you on this forum again.

I agree.

If Serb say he doesnt like Albanian entry people will jump to say it's because politics. If Englishman say so, there is no KOSOVO story here. Do we Serbs has to like Albanian song ? Don't we have a right to say what we think ? Last Diva only said she thinks the song is bad and they should use televoting ! There was no politics there !

As for me, I find the song nice

@ Mongol Boy

You are despicable. There are so many people who have written in this and other threads that they don't like the song from Olta Boka and think that the jury made the wrong choice. It was harmless what "i am the last diva on the planet" have written. You only reacted so exaggeratedly because she dare to write "Serbia" in one of her comments. If she have written that Albania should televote like for example Portugal you probably wouldn't have reacted at all to her comments.

@ Mongol

You have but I don't find this forum a right place to say this.
I see it's your purpose to make a provocation for Serbian readers here. First, you're not Albanian from Kosovo to have some need to say this, you have never been there, you probably doesn't have any idea about it since you're young and from another country that has nothing to do with Serbia, Albania or Kosovo.
If your jealous to Serbia for something, or you just want to find a way to comunicate with Serbian fans in some way here, do it through music, Eurovision and art and not politics.
Thank you

Dear users of Esctoday!
Please leave politics out of this forum, as this is a page dedicated to a much better and beautiful thing called Eurovision Song Contest!

Hello there people-what is wrong with you???
Last diva-there is no such thing as "bad taste" vs. "good taste" in music'like in ant other art. There is only "Taste" and that is fully subjective!!!
The only "bad taste" I see here comes from those who mix politics and music festival together...
Esc is a music contest that gives us all the rare oprtunity to overcome our differnces-appreciate it and do not ruin that chance!!
Gil-although we come from the same country I really do'nt see the 2 runner-up women as intresting nor display of good voice or song...sorry!
Very happy with the winner!
Last diva-you should be happy and not upset-it is slightly like "Yutro" which is a serbian winner of Beovizia and a great song....

"Do you know why there are so many "Boka"-s in Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia? BECAUSE IT IS AN ILLYRIAN TOPONYME. Territories you stole from ancient albanians. But wait and see. First Kosova, justice will be made. You can't laugh forever."

Ancient Albanians ???? Is that real??? Are you serious ???? Ancient Albanians living in Montenegro.... I can only see that you have NO IDEA what are you talking about so I won't comment this...

What a hell are you talking about ??? Leave Kosovo and politics out of this forum please, that's nothing have to do with ESC. You have no right to say such thing like "INDEPENDENCE FOR KOSOVO!!!!" Stay politics out.

Prof Listener

Molitva was not stolen, and certainly not from Albania. If we steal from you're country how come Albania never send a good song on ESC.... please be serious, no one is desperate to do that and than present it on important contest like ESC.

Suzy 82 [44256]

and what the hell Kosovo has to do with Eurovision and songs ???

Suzy 82 [44256]

@ Prof

Molitva is not a stolen song. It was proved by EBU and Albanian Ndarja song's composer !

I hope press and public in Albania wil notice that the tradtional Festival i Kenges is not the suitable way to find a song for the ESC.

There should be an extra preselection with televoting.

No more doubtful jury voting anymore.

Last diva on the planet. Do you know that saying? When the fox didnt reached the grape, said: It is not eatable.
Albania has a very nice song, and what is the most important thing: THEY DON'T STEAL like Serbia does in a regular base. Lane moje was a turkish song. Molitva was an albanian song. So, you "televoting" and "telekilling" nation, shut up.

Night Elf: Do you know why there are so many "Boka"-s in Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia? BECAUSE IT IS AN ILLYRIAN TOPONYME. Territories you stole from ancient albanians. But wait and see. First Kosova, justice will be made. You can't laugh forever.
Go Albania.

Other interesting information is coming out and about:

Gjergj Xhuveli, one of the two boycotting judges, was seen having lunch in a Tirana restaurant with Serb embassy officials.

Gil Maister [30414]
Tue 18 Dec 2007 10:54:56

Something stinks for sure.. it was clear the Doruntina and Flaka had the best song this FIK.

Black Magic [34397]
Tue 18 Dec 2007 08:39:01

So those 2 judges were called racists and gangsters by the general director of the festival on the news today.

Manjola Nallbani has stated that she will never return to FIK because her song was sabotaged. They had "fixed" the mics and her voice was heard very badly for the public at home...and in the hall, it was not heard at all!

So much for this FIK's integrity and that stuff you people were trying to sell.
