Rejection
Cyprus: Marlain enters with non-euro song
Athens-born Marlain is a singer, actress and dancer. Her career started back in 1999 with the production of Aznavour's Lautrec in London's West End. The same year she represented Cyprus with Tha'nai erotas placing low in the scoreboard although she led the polls before the contest. For the following three years, until 2002, Marlain starred in lead roles in many musical productions in the UK, Italy (La Scala in Milan) and the USA.
At the end of 2002, following her participation in Shakespear's Othello as Desdemona, she turned down a full scholarship by the British Council for an MA in acting. Instead she returned to Greece to participate in Hi-5, the first Greek pop girl band. A product of a TV talent show, the band shot to the top of the charts having one platinum and one gold album before they broke up two years later. Marlain tells her fans who still keep asking her about Hi-5 through her MySpace : "Personally I believe its natural for a 'manufactured' band to have a short life span. Of course, I really feel sorry for all the fans who really enjoyed what we did, I can only thank you from the bottom of my heart and say I wish we could return the favour somehow. Each one of us has to go her own way now, carrying her own learning experiences and memories from those 2 years. Thanks again to all those who will log on and ask, be well and bless you".
Next year, on 12 January, Marlain Angelidou will be trying once more to win the ticket for the Eurovision Song Contest in the Cypriot national final. Her song is called Rejection and Marlain says about it: "'Rejection' talks about all those times when 'being different' costs you something you want. I never thought I would re-enter this competition but here I am with a non-'euro' song! See you there..."
Currently Marlain performs together with Michalis Chatzigiannis (Cyprus 1998) in Athens and she is working on her first solo album of her own songs.

OH my god hope to perform well this time,
''In the name of love'' is the rare, [i think unreleased] English version of ''Tha'ne erotas'' & it's AWESOME!!!
But i prefer the GREEK one...
Greek is a FANTASTIC language,
& this particular track shines with it...
GO MARLAIN!!!!!
Go Marlain! Hope she represents again the island of Cyprus. She's so talented!
i thing that the people from west countreys dont care for ESC too much any more and the results in televoting from that countreys make it the imigrants from east block who live in west, so i thing the problem is not only the former soviets and former yugoslavian countreys who is voting each other because only with that points never go to the final.
I totally liked her in 1999, she definitely deserved more!
@ DAN WILSON
Are you being sarcastic? I see no other explanation.
It's one of my fav ESC songs...

I
it.........
It was a revolutionary pop song!
It was so brilliant that does NOT remind us anything we've heard!
Still catchy even if it's ''9 yrs old''...
RARELY danse-pop tracks remain classic ,years after they are written.
U CANNOT listen 2 ''Take me to your heaven'' ,yet ''Tha'ne erotas'' is extremely good even today!!!

Undoubtedly,Marlain's ''Tha'ne erotas'' was 1 of the best songs in the course of the festival
Some people can be so mean........!!!!!
marlain is a great singer with a very good voice
her song in 1999 was for top 3 at least.
she was unlucky untill now
but i am quite sure that she will get what diserve soon
my best wishes marlain
we love u!
@cooler
True, although "Tha nai erotas" was pure crap, unlike "Comme ci, comme ca", I expected it to qualify at least (stage performance was OK).
@jacob mouritz olsen, whell before to critizise others countreys entrys u have to critizises ur countrey in 2007 i hop u r undersantd what i mean
thank u
Milan S.: "If "non-euro" means "unlike Casanova", I welcome it wholeheartedly!"
lo l
I didn't like her song in 1999 and have always wondered why there was surprise and mourns when she finished deservedly low ... similar case as "Comme ci comme ca" - that song has nothing and it was fair it hasn't qualified for the final this year.
Polls can make some song favorite even it is a crap.
Something DIFFERENT for once!
THANK GOD!
Euro-songs are getting a bit thin!
i dont usually like cypriot entries but tha nai erotas is one of the two entries (the other being 04) i enjoyed...though stage performance was quite mediocre and imo played a major role on its low scoring...
Anyway best of luck..
As long as it's a LOT better than 1999
Never understood the hype that year, around the Cypriout entry. Real rubbish that was
She is one of the most untalented creatures I've EVER heard. I wish her all the bad luck and may the Lord help the Cypriots not to chose her, if they don't want to finish last in the semi with 2 points from Greece...
If "non-euro" means "unlike Casanova", I welcome it wholeheartedly!
