Ukraine: Ani Lorak for Eurovision
The 29 year old singer was the runner-up in the 2005 national final in Ukraine, after qualifying from the semi finals only to be beaten by Greenjolly who were parachuted into the final as a wildcard entry. She shot to fame on Russian tv show 'Morning Star'before going to the USA where she won the Big Apple Music Festival in 1996. She returned to Ukraine where she has become one of the most popular pop stars in the country.

Yay! I like Ani Lorak's music, hopefully Ukraine will get another good result
But Hermes
Its a SONG contest! now i'm fully prepared to accept that performance comes into that catagory, as it has played a MAJOR role in the success or failer of many ESC songs in the past few years.
HOWEVER, Verka is not a musician, she is (not a very good) comedian and drag act!
I'm sure she is very successful in Ukraine and in other countries but you are failing to see that in the West and probably a lot of the East there is a feeling that ESC is a camp, rather kitch and lurid contest with virtually NO musical quality!, we all know this is a wrong impression, as ESC has and will produce huge talent as well as some great songs, but Verka is not one of these talents or songs and actually proved to a huge number of Britons, French, Germans, Spaniads, Dutch and Belgians that ESC is a vulgar expression of the musical art! This view can already be seen by the fact western countries send things like France 2007, UK 2007, 2006, Germany 2006, Spain 2006, 2005, Denmark 2007, 2006, 2004, Switzerland 2007, 2006, 2004, Portugal 2006, 2005, 2004, the list goes on!
The point is that ESC (if it is to be taken seriously) needs artists of a much higher talent and credability level than Verka, you have already admitted isn't in it for the music but rather the performance and act.
Owen
you would calm down when u'd realise Verka's been famous for over a decade in Ukraine - with a similar style. So obviously Verka didn't ruin anything in Ukrainian market, on the contrary, it just shows there is room for that kind of humour, not only in Ukraine, but apparently in the whole Europe, regarding the (surprising!) success Verka had in several European countries. Tell me what other Ukrainian song had success abroad, "Wild dances" excepted?
Now, you're free to consider Verka's music was full crap, but once again, this is MEANT to be. Once you'll get it, maybe u'll start to like Verka, as her aim is obviously not to compete for the best musical quality a song could ever hope for! (assuming a song is hoping, anyway... lol)
i agree with owen verka freak WAS a disaster but not only for ukranian music but also for eurovision
In any case at least we can be sure of acutal MUSIC from Ukraine this year!
Last year (although they came 2nd) was a disaster for the Ukrainian music industry in that it was represented by an "anti-song" ie a song that isnt really a song its just a sequence of notes and the entire thing completely rests on the performance, which to be fair wasn't exactly AMAZING!
Verka completly missed one of the basic rules of comedy which is it has to actually MEAN sometime to be vaguely amusing and there has to be somekind of subtlty to it! She was like a a sledgehammer trying to crack open a peanut!

Ani Lorak celebrated the 15th anniversary of her performing career on December, 2. Tina Karol appeared on our music stage in summer, 2005. But the names correspondence is coincidence imo.
again a good choice from Ukrain!
nothing special apart from being hot
would be interesting if Ani Lorak was before Tina Karol or the other way round and if one copied after all from the other or if it's just haphazardly...
anyway, as long as this doesn't become a trend and Finland enters Annah Nenirakap or Greece Lebras ft. Anna Issiv, it's still funny...
Her bf is not producer. His parents have a complex of hotels or restaurants in Turkey. And she opened her restaurant in Kyiv which is runned by him
here are three videoclips of hers:
Ani Lorak - Ya s toboy (2007) (I'm with you)
Watch the youtube video here
her lastest videoclip to date, released in the fall of 2007
Ani Lorak & Oleksandr Ponomariov - 100 kisses (2005)
Watch the youtube video here
Some of you might recognise the name of Ponomariov, as he's been the first Ukrainian representative in the contest, in 2003. The song is all in english and it is not a cover!
Ani Lorak - Ya zhe govorila (2001) (I've already told)
Watch the youtube video here
this video is taken from a new year musical, sort of a parody of Gogol's Evenings on a farm near Dikanka
enjoy
Great...
another Ukranian bride for Turks
Ukrania knows the game, that's why it is one of the best esc countries...No doubt that Ani will rock Belgrade...
Good Luck!
well lately Ani Lorak has quite evolved with more 'rockish' tracks than that video proposed: check "Ya s toboy", her lastest hit to date
ah i'm SO glad she takes part finally !!! I don't know about her Eurovision entry (she's capable of choosing a masterpiece but also a loosy song) but she's at least incredibly beautiful and she has a very good voice - she's a great performer.
But if she takes part, it means she already knows what a song to choose already, otherwise she wouldn't have risked it. So i'm very impatient
ps: her boyfriend is turkish, i think he's a producer or smt, his name is Murat. They plan to marry actually very soon !
ps: Owen, it's just a coincidence. Ani Lorak is "Karolina" - her name - reversed, as for Tina Karol, Tina stands for Tatiana, as for Karol i don't know.
Her boyfriend is Turkish?
Who?Someone famous or just an ordinary person????
Long time coming....
But good to see the first "established name" confirmed for ESC next year, and after unsuccessfully trying in the past.
Ani is a hottie! I`d give anything for a night with her!
She is often to Turkey cuz her boyfriend is Turkish
Good artist. She is really beautiful, but the song is not of my kind of music, but anyway, that can change for Eurovision. Good luck
Gorgeous singer from Ukraine...congrats!
She has the voice, she has the looks,I think Ukraine will get lots of points this year!
P.S:I think 'Car Song' video was shot in Turkey
I know she came to Turkey many times...

@ Owen
I read somewhere that Ani Lorak's real name is indeed Karolina but when she first tried to enter a festival or competition that the name Karolina was already taken, so voila Ani Lorak it became! Ange
@ Owen: That's not freaky that's intention from Tina.
Wonderful news!!! Ani Lorak is really great... maybe Kiev 2009 one more time?!?
Great news !! Ani Lorak is a great singer !! Now she needs a great song !! Ukraine Go for it !!!
