The fans back the televote!
Molitva is song of the year!
The song gave Serbia its first victory at the world's biggest music competition and has been voted as the best song in the competition by the Eurovision Song Contest fans.
Marija Serifovic's Molitva won the second annual esctoday.com song of the year award by a large margin. With 21,000 votes cast, she took 28.9% of the vote, beating Magdi Ruzsa's Unsubstantial blues into second place with 16.1% of the votes cast.
The result is in huge contrast to last year, when Mihai and Carola were separated by just one vote. They finished fourth and fifth at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. This year, fans have decided that the winning Eurovision Song Contest song deserves to be named as Song of the year for 2007.
The esctoday.com Song of the Year result:
- Molitva by Marija Šerifović of Serbia 28.9 %
- Unsubstantial blues by Magdi Rúzsa of Hungary 16.2 %
- Visionary dream by Sopho of Georgia 10.6 %
- Dancing lasha tumbai by Verka Serduchka of Ukraine 10.6 %
- Song #1 by Serebro of Russia 10.1 %
- Frauen regier'n die Welt by Roger Cicero of Germany 9.1 %
- Water by Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankoulov of Bulgaria 8.5 %
- Shake it up shekerim by Kenan Doğulu of Turkey 6.0 %
The esctoday.elves will be sending Eurosanta across the continent tonight with Rudolf the Finnish Reindeer and his friends to deliver some special presents on behalf of the fans. Throughout the day, we will be announcing the winners from the second annual esctoday.com awards. Some categories have been incredibly close, and we have a tie in one of the most popular categories and some very close results in many polls.

If I were the one to make this top10, it would have been this:
1.Slovenia
2.Serbia
3.Bosnia
4.Modova
5.Bulgaria
6.Iceland
7.Ciprus
8.Belarus
9.Norway
10.Greece
What a pity Ciprus & Iceland did not qualified for the final.Norway too.
Limited to these eight songs I would list them
Russia
Ukraine
Hungary
Georgia
Bulgaria
Germany
Serbia
Turkey
Russia was my personal favourite of the whole contest, a great song performed very stylishly. Serbia sounded way to old fashioned and preachy. Other songs I would mention would be Moldova,Sweden and France.
I don`t like this... order! I agree only only with a few song but what seems awful to me is that, in my oppinion, the best song from ESC 2007, Cvet Z Juga wasn`t voted. I was sure that Slovenia was going to win then but I had a... surprise. And now another one???
My own opinion is that the stage looked absolutely great in its red and black version, and after so many colorful backgrounds it looked nice. The inspiration came from Bizantium's art. Girls were sexy and hot
YOu have your own opinion and you can tell it out. But let me remind you Molitva was the top favorite 2 months before Eurovision, it was the favorite song by OGAE, it won semi-final, it won final, and after 7 months fans voted it the best song. So if you don't like the song it's ok, but you have to respect Europe's decision. Or don't do it, but anyway it's the winning song and people decided it deserved to win.
Hi! I don't know why is this song so special? She hasn't sooooooo great voice as everynody says ... she didn't do well on stage (my honest opinion). I simply just HATE this song. Please stop this YOU-RU-VISION and make the EUROVISION come back. As Jessica Garlick said "(Eurovision) ... come back"
@Lucky 8b
Looking at your top10...I'm proud that Hungary is last on your list!.lol
What a silly Order!!!!!!
She should be like this:
Ukraine,
Georgia,
Serbia,
Bulgaria,
Germany,
Turkey,
Hungary was really the worst Song of all
It's great that Unsubstantial Bues is the second song in this list! Users here have a good taste
the ark worrying kind was the best song..
Yes, Georgia came 3rd!!! I knew they deserved higher than 12th!
I'm sorry but for me Molitva is just an average song. One of those which won't be remembered in the future. So my vote goes to Unsubstantial Blues.
Bah, like Magdi would say: "Unsubstantial awards"
I am happy that 'Molitva' won the Best Song! Well Done Marija!
@ Milan: Of course not, and better still, it's mutual.
Well CONGRATULATIONS to Marija again, good job.
From this list I would pick Russia, I don't know why, text of the song is sooooooooo stupid, but I must admit that I listen this song more than any other after ESC. Again don't know why !!!
My list here would be : Russia
Georgia
Serbia
Hungary
Turkey
Ukraine
Bulgaria
Germany
wow! Congrats Magdi
I'm a bit surprised. cause I thought with a more ESC style song she could've done even better, cause she is a great singer but this song was not the right choice for ESC.
Congrats to Marija too, well-deserved!
Hungary and Georgia were better
I always said that if molitva was represented by another country and not serbia , for example lets say malta, cyprus, spain, germany or france, now at this moment, we re not talking about molitva as the winner, neither in this esc nor the song of the year award, i m sure of that.
Congrats again to Molitva!
I would have liked to see Bosnia, Iceland and Malta in this category. They bring "year" into the phrase "song of the year", as these are the songs I'll remember this Eurovision year by.
But no such luck I suppose. I do think Serbia was the best from these 8 and a memorable song that deserved its victory both here and in the contest. However, I hope for better nominations in this category nex year.
Indeed, both Slovenian and Moldovan songs were better than the Hungarian one. Magdi still puts me to sleep, it has been the same since day 1.
Slovenia and Belarus were the best in this esc! One of them SHOULD have won! Molitva was not up to standard , if we have to talk about a ballad then angel fo chiara was a really good ballad and not molitva.
Once again this year, eurovision has been shown and considered either as a joke or as a farce! Well done EBU!
@Darko S.
Will I ever disagree with you, man?
WTF? GERMANY?
Water was the song of the year, and not Molitva.
My favourites were Georgia and Germany, but Molitva is a good song. And as for people asking about the Slovenian song: in my opinion that shouldn't even have been good enough for the final.
top 3 songs were in a class of their own.
