BHRT decided: Elvir Lakovic Laka to Belgrade

Exclusive: Laka for Bosnia-Herzegovina

esctoday.com can reveal that BHRT has made its decision on who will represent Bosnia-Herzegovina at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest earlier than expected. Out of 31 shortlisted songs, the seven-member Commission has opted for Elvir Lakovic Laka, and the song with the working title Pokusaj (Try). Laka is the author of both the music and the lyrics. The singer is famous in the Balkans and one of the most popular artists in his home country.

Further to the rules on the selection of the song to represent Bosnia-Herzegovina at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade in May 2008, the seven-member commission formed by the BHRT with the task to select the country's representative for the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest, including the following members:

  1. Dejan Kukric, BHT1 Music and Entertainment Prorgramme Editor, Head of BH Eurosong 2008 Delegation
  2. Milorad Kenjalovic, MPhil, Full Professor, Dean, Arts Academy, Banjaluka
  3. Vesna Andree-Zaimovic, MPhil in Music,(and Bosnia-Herzegovina ESC 1999 participant)
  4. Jasmin Ferovic, Head of BH Radio 1 Music Programme
  5. Damir Sehanovic, music reporter
  6. Admir Djulandzic, MPBHRT music producer
  7. Maja Cengic, PR and BH Eurosong 2008 Project Press

The commission met today (27th December 2007) at the BHRT offices, listened to all 31 shortlisted songs selected from a total of 50 received by the 20th December deadline, and decided that the representative of Bosnia-Herzegovina at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest will be Elvir Lakovic Laka, with his song Pokusaj (Try).

This, however, is just a working title of the song that will first be presented to the general public in a live special TV show programme on BHRT on Sunday, 2 March 2008. Laka is the author of both the music and the lyrics of the song titled Pokusaj (Try).

Bosnia-Herzegovina will try to win a ticket to the grand final of the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest through one of the semi-finals. Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, the country has never failed to qualify for the final.

You can see an example of one of Laka's songs below.

I HAVE NO COMMENT THIS IS TERRIBLE

But it has nothing to do about conservative attitude, but just about how much you actually think it is funny, and you are right that this will not be something like Verka, but I am almost sure that it will not be a ballad cause it's just not his style.

@ Wannabe... I think that you don't really understand what I wrote.... :D

I mean that Bosnia is a bit conservative to send someone/something crappy.... (Like Verka)

And I feel that the song will be a ballad.....

Well Marcell, we've seen in 2005 that this is not true.
Femminem went 15th, because the song really wasn't so good.
And this year, Marija deserved so much more, but she wen't 11th.
So please stop talking BiH is always in the top 10 because of the political votes!
It's because of the song!

Marchell Feher so you already know what kind of song we will hear from BIH so tell us what kind of ballad we will hear and how it will look like, and in which way are Bosnians conservative? It sounds like you know everything? :)

I've listened to the song presented in YT link above and it is a bit surprising and quite strange :|

This left a wide door open for what we suppose to expect from 2008 BIH entry.

I'm looking forward :)

I think that Bosnia & Herzegovina know what to do... They are a bit conservative so I think they choose a ballad or something like that. Don't be afraid they won't send a "singer" similar to Verka.... so this won't be a fun act.... ;)

And of course political & neighbour voting will lead Bosnia to TOP 10... :S

Brave and risky decission. We have to wait until listen the song, but this promises an interesting contribution of Bosnia to the ESC 08.

Oh come on. Last year Croatia and Montenegro missed out on the finals, and it was Slovenia's first time in. Croatia was also represented by a truly famous Balkan artist and it didn't help much. So being from the ex YU block does not guarantee you anything for sure. However strange it sounds under the circumstances, it will ultimately depend on the song. ;)

Don't worry, he will qualify. The BVA or "Balkan Voting Allinace" won't let him down for sure. No offence intended, it's just that the votes from all Balkanic countries have become soooooooo previsible as the ponts exchange between Greece and Cyprus.

I chaged my mind.... I think he will got high score in esc... I watched some performances... he is quite good... teh songs aren't wonderfull... but they are funny... I can see a balkan "Alk Poier" on Laka... Anyway this is not my style I still prefer a good ballad. Good Luck Bosnia!

looks arty indeed
it might be a very good and interesting choice from Bosnia-Herzegovina, but aren't you afraid it's gonna end up like one of many joke-fake entries? France ent some very different, independent and funny artists in 07, but in the end it was just "yet another humorous irrelevent song" that failed to do any good?

Thanks Denis. Well, he`s songs are different from Lejla and Rijeka.....don`t know if it`s really good or bad. We`ll just have to wait for his ESC song.

WTF?
Its a bit too "arty" (ie odd) for ESC I think, people just wont vote for it unless they know who he is.
Then again odd has worked for some people in the past, thing is this isn't good odd its crap odd
