Meet Elvir Laković, Laka!
"They told me not to give any details about the song, but I like it. I didn't want to abandon my own style and sing some ballad with lyrics such as 'You've gone away, and I'm crying", Laka says about his song and he continues to tell the story of how the news was broken to him: "The phone rang whilst I was handwashing a pair of socks. They said 'You're through' and I asked 'Through to what?' and they said 'to Eurovision of course!' I immediately said 'Guys, I've got nothing to wear' and they said not to worry as they'd sort everything out.
"The second thing I asked them was whether I'd take my own food or eat there and they said not to worry and that I'd get everything there. They say everything is organised, and I expressed my wish to share the roast with the Estonians. But then this is not gonna happen cuz everything must be above board. I won't be allowed to eat beans cuz you don't eat bean soup at this level." he concludes.
Laka played folk music in the cafes of Goražde for money, and at concerts performed rock and roll. Laka recorded his first song Malo sam se razočar'o (I'm a little bit disappointed) in 1998. This song launched his showbiz career nationally, and every year he released a new song, among which were Vještica (Witch), Moro (Nightmare) and Piškila (You did a wee).
In 2004 Laka left for New York, but returned disappointed after two-and-a-half years and released his first album Zec (Rabbit).
Elvir Laković Laka won over the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina with his originality and lack of pretentiousness. He is said to be a singer of great feeling for new and different things.
The beginning of Laka's career is concentrated on a guitar bought for him by his father in his first year at Music Primary School. At secondary school he and some friends formed a rock band called 'Deformacija poreza'. With his group he competed at local festivals, and in 1999 their song Razočaro won second place, and RTVBIH gave him an offer of recording as soon as he gained great success. The following year the new single Vještica just confirmed his popularity further.
In 2003 his song Moro won the Bosnia & Herzegovina Davorin music award for the best rock song of the year. The album Zec has also been released in Croatia on the Menart record label.
Elvir Laković Laka will represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at one of the two semifinals of next year's Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade.

I think that this Bosnian song is very very very ORRIBLE!
Just had a look at his stuff on youtube. Very impressed. I think Bosnia and Herzegovina need to send something different this year because their 2007 song sounded exactly the same as 2006.
I think this guy could do well for them. With a good song I could imagine UK televoters liking this kind of thing.
LAKA IS THE LEGEND!!!!
GOOD LUCK LAKA!
Bosnia-Herzegovina... Very cool, very alternative... I cannot stop listen Laka on you tube this is music art everything great man...
There's something quite endearing about him, even though he''s not the best singer or looker. And the song on Youtube is catchy so if his song in Belgrade is as good he could come Top 10. B&H have entered great songs the last couple of yrs, after the ubercamp nightmares of Deen and Femminem.
@uros plesec
There is no quaility. At least not by this song. And he can't sing.
He's just tyring to sing. And this song. OMFG! Awful!!!!!
And like we see comedian like he is, do not well in Eurovision.
He's not like Verka Serduchka.
He's like Todomondo or Les Fatals Picards.
And they are all HORRIBLE!
Laka is a great musician and humorist. Show creator! Laka, you are a legend! [b]Choice is exelent! From Macedonia 12 pts for Bosnia and Herzegovina![b]
Sounds like he will do good job @ 2008 Eurovision
I've heard some songs of Laka, and i think he's really good!
i think it will be very good to have more different songs, and i hope there will be more originality this year rather than the usual poppish songs who usually sounds the same...
Good luck Bosnia & Herzegovina!
Hm, I think Bosnia does not want to win. But it could have been a lot worse, he's not that terrible.
url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0MLzupR-co&feature=related]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0MLzupR-co&feature=related/url] video of Laka.... Amazing... Vote for quaility not for comercial trash!
This guy is absolut genius videos,music - is pure art you can not compare Him with Verka or AF no way... Where is your sence for art and music people. If we have more entrants like him on Eurovision i think reputation of Esc will be much higher! Are you not bored of popy songs i love you, dont leave me??? Good luck Laka i hope voters will reconize pure art i really hope so!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0MLzupR-co&feature=related
Eurovision is not only about winning but also have fun, so I support Laka and hope he will make a good show, and really I don't see anything disgusting about him, he is just a guy maybe a little different but nothing else .
Naprijed Laka!
@mario mir
i thought that too, when hari mata hari was choosen to present Bosnia.
We have just to wait to hear the song..
Terribly awful!
This man is bad like a serious singer and bad like a funny singer. He's definitely not a new Alf Poier or Verka Serduchka, he's really disgusting and certainly, Serbians and Croatians would have a heavy stomach to vote for Bosnia (beacuse the rest of countries won't do it this year!).
Don't like to be negative before I've heard the song, so I'm not gonna do that either. Until now it seems he is quite crazy in the good sense.. great sense of humour, probably be big fun in Belgrade!
ALL I CAN SAY IS THIS IS TERRIBLE
@Danche Mitrev
Which song is awful?
the song is awful
Ups. Wrong article loool XD!
Well Marcell, we've seen in 2005 that this is not true.
Femminem went 15th, because the song really wasn't so good.
And this year, Marija deserved so much more, but she wen't 11th.
So please stop talking BiH is always in the top 10 because of the political votes!
It's because of the song!
yes, me to. i dont like him as a singer..but i really hope for a good song!
I hope so much that the song is good.
