Yet another special

Dedicated to Anne-Maarja, simply a superb person who always reminds me that there’s still sun, fun and laughter in the world.

Tere! So, tired of my columns yet? No? Thank you, you’re so polite :) Anyway, I’m not tired of writing them.

So, the Estonian entry says that the ‘eighties are coming back’. Let’s see, my childhood belongs to that period. It was a nice time through the eyes of a child. As well as for Estonia. I do mean the end of this decade when the processes started which lead to its independence. Not to mention the good music that was produced back then in that small Baltic state that hosted a great show last year.

When I look at the videos from the 1980’s then I usually laugh a lot: people wearing those stupid hairstyles and ridiculous clothes. So, if the 80’s are coming back then it should be pretty easy to check. And if I check the songs from this year’s contest then I can conclude that the eighties ARE coming back. (That Norwegian singer with his hairstyle seems to be a time-traveller who’s just stepped out of the time machine bringing him here from the silver decade).

The song by Ruffus is very, very good, even brilliant. Definitely one of the best entries from Estonia we’ve ever seen, maybe even one of the best songs from last years. It has everything a good song must have – wonderful melody and lyrics that really mean something. The piano bridges deserve an applause from my side (imagine me clapping hands in my room at my PC…hehe). The singer himself has probably one of the best voices at this year’s contest. I guess it’s a song you love or hate, nothing between (guess on which side am I ;)). So my prediction is that it’ll win this year (or get at least into the top3) or be among the last ones. I’d grade it with 9+ out of 10. I don’t give it 10 points only because I rarely give out the maximum points, coz there’s always room to improve for everything.

I heard the last album of Claire’s Birthday (now Ruffus) and I must say that this band has a great future ahead of them. I wish them all the best from my side. Keep it going Ruffus!

So I’ll stop my 9 points out of 10 positivity (according to a test at emode.com) and start listening to my favourite entry again and again and again….. So let’s all join hands and admit by singing that the eighties are coming back! Till next time!
