2007 Nordic Preview show - Part 1

It is rare that you have one of the participants publicly judging all of the his competitors so esctoday.com is bringing you a full report of how Eirikur and the other experts judged the songs in the first round of the previews.
Bulgaria:

Adam Duvå Hall, Denmark: It is an interesting song and you don’t really have to know what the lyrics are about. It is directly stolen from Safri Duo though. 3 points.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: Interesting song that works as a good intro to the whole show. 4 points.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: It is a good mix of something mysterious and mythological, modern pop and Bulgarian folk music. 3 points.

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: A good intro yes, but you keep expecting something to happen which just doesn’t happen. 3 points.

Per Sundnes, Norway: It is too simple and it has nothing to do with Eurovision Song Contest. 1 point, but only because she looks like Alanis Morisette.
Flag of Israel
Israel:

Per Sundnes, Norway: They have taken some techno, some Balkan pop, some spices and then mixed it around. And then added some controversies so it gets extra attention. 2 points.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: I like the chorus, but that is all really. 2 points for a good chorus.

Adam Duvå Hall, Denmark: I agree with Eirikur. A catchy punk chorus, but the rest is totally indifferent. 2 points.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: I am pleased to see that Israel is giving us some wonderful Jewish humour again. We haven’t seen that since 1987 and Hubba Hulle. There have been too many peace songs, which I am glad to get away from. 2 points.

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: This is so bad that it actually makes me happy! I am not sure though that people will understand the irony in it so I agree with the rest of you. 2 points.
Flag of Cyprus
Cyprus:

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: I think it is a good song, she looks good and all in one it is a good “output”. 4 points.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: I like it too. It is a good song and she has something which catches me. 3 points.

Adam Duvε Hall, Denmark: She has a good start already by the title. We can all understand that. And I like to see a bit of electro pop in Eurovision Song Contest. That it would come from Cyprus I was not expecting though. 4 points.

Per Sundnes, Norway: I am a bit unsure. I think it becomes a bit euro cheese and I don’t think it will qualify. 3 points.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: She is the best singer this year. I am goosey all over when I hear here song, but maybe it is mostly flashback to 1992 where her song was absolutely fantastic. This song lacks some and doesn’t reach that level. 3 points.

Belarus
Belarus:

Per Sundnes, Norway: Well, this is not a video contest, but you were all singing along so I believe it will do well if it works live. I chose to believe it will. 4 points.

Adam Duvε Hall, Denmark: The music is fantastic, a bit James Bond kind of thing, but he is clammy! He can probably get the pants of the girls though. I will give it 3 points.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: I am quite sure it will qualify. This is like a pop version of WigWam. It is one of the better songs. 4 points.

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: He is a Colgate guy with a big smile. The chorus is great, you sing along to it the first time you hear it. The video is fantastic, a lot of Glamour and Gucci. I would like to give it 5, but I go with 4 points.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: I love the song and the video is the best, but I think it is tasteless to use such an amount of money on a video when the country is so poor. I am giving it 4 points and hoping for a second place, as I don’t want to go to Minsk and support Europe’s only dictatorship!
Flag of Iceland
Iceland:

Thomas Lundin, Finland: It feels strange saying this when he is standing next to me, but I am being honest. I love the passion and the strength in this – and Eirikur. I give it 5 points and is hoping for an outgoing performance in Helsinki.

Adam Duvε Hall, Denmark: I love this. It is windy rock and roll and that is something the Danes like. I love it – but I want to make an agreement with Eirikur. If he promises NOT to get a haircut then he gets 5 points! (Eirikur made that promise)

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: It is a great song, as usual from Iceland. It is no surprise either that Eirikur sings so well. My biggest threat in 99 was Selma and I would not be surprised if this wins. 5 points.

Per Sundnes, Norway: It might sounds like we had arranged this, but we haven’t. Eirikur is phenomenal and then there is his hair – though it is starting to get thinner. 5 points.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: I can’t really stand here and give myself points, so Christer will you do that?

Christer Bjφrkman, host: It is a great song, but maybe not so interesting. We know though that Eirikur is the best and it will be even better live. 4 points.

Georgia:

Adam Duvε Hall, Denmark: It is boring, plain idling. 1 point for being the country that invented wine brewing though.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: This will be boring on stage; it gets nowhere. I give it one point though to show that my mother raised me well so I wont give any of my competitors zero points. 1 point.

Per Sundnes, Norway: This is a typical debutant mistake to take the most popular singer the country have and then they know all about that singer, but doesn’t understand that the rest of Europe has no clue. 1 point – again just for the wine!

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: 1 point for the wine yes, but I want to add another point as she can actually sing. There will be someone else who can’t sing at all so I give it 2 points in total.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: I don’t agree with you at all! I am a big fan of Bjφrk and Madonna so I love Sopho. I can’t quite explain why, but it is just a feeling I got… 5 points!
Flag of Montenegro
Montenegro:

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: This is so bad that I panic! And he takes himself so serious… thinking he is so gorgeous, but he is actually just a budgerigar that sits there and jumps all the time. I can’t stand it! 0 points.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: I have promised to be positive this year, but I also have to be able to live with myself! This is really bad rock n roll. 1 point.

Adam Duvε Hall, Denmark: This is so helpless! It is the worst I have heard in many years. This is like bad music you heard in the cinemas in the 80’s in adverts for chewing gum. 0 points.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: This is like a visit to the museum for the history of the Eurovision Song Contest which they then with violence has tried to spice up with some electric guitar. 1 point.

Per Sundnes, Norway: This was good old shit! So simple is that - 0 points.

Flag of Switzerland
Switzerland:

Per Sundnes, Norway: I love when previous stars enters the Eurovision Song Contest, but I am not ready for dance and the 90’s and I am certainly not ready for a Backstreet Boys dance which looks like aerobic to me! 1 point.

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: I understand that some might like it as you can sing along to it right away, but his English is bad and how can they do it live with 50 dancers? 3 points.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: I don’t like that they use the vampire theme the year after Lordi won. I would like to give it zero, but I actually like the chorus – but I hate myself for liking it because I don’t really want to. 2 points.

Adam Duvε Hall, Denmark: I might be the only one here, but I actually believe in vampires. I can’t decide though when it comes to this song… Either it is brilliant or the stupidest I have ever heard – 5 points or one points… I will go with 3 points then.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: There is some good moment in it, but as a whole it doesn’t work. I agree though that the chorus is dangerously good. 2 points.
Moldova
Moldova:

Adam Duvε Hall, Denmark: It goes in to one ear and straight out through the other ear. There is nothing that makes me believe in what she is singing. 1 point for the T-shirt though – that is a bit of rock n roll.

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: It started out so well, but then it falls a bit apart. She is stressing her voice and it will be interesting to see if it will last on stage. It is worth another listening though. 3 points.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: I love that the song means something. It becomes real and goes straight into my heart. And I like that they have added something unique to this rock trend and doesn’t just go with the flow. 5 points!

Per Sundnes, Norway: I am shocked! All I remember is this annoying violin digging into my brain! But 1 point for the T-shirt.

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: I believe in it. It also seems real to me and I think she is nice. I hope her voice will last. 5 points.

Flag of The Netherlands
Netherlands:

Eirikur Hauksson, Iceland: This is what I dislike most with the Eurovision Song Contest. It is nothing special and why all those dancers? It is so old fashion. 1 point.

Thomas Lundin, Finland: It is nicely produced, but it lacks some soul. It is typical for the Netherlands; I am hoping every year that will come up with something good because I really want so much to have a Eurovision Song Contest in Amsterdam. 2 points.

Adam Duvε Hall, Denmark: It is a simple song, which would have been easy to make more real, but I don’t think she quite manage it. But I would rather go to Amsterdam than Minsk so 3 points.

Per Sundnes, Norway: This is the worst of the worst! It is so horrible, she can probably sing, but it only turns into a copy. 0 points.

Charlotte Perrelli, Sweden: I was expecting some nice soul from her. I wish they had put it up 2 or 3 notes because nothing happens really. 1 point.

Switzerland and Netherlands aren´t that bad like this "experts" say it. I like both songs and if I´m honest: I could sit there in this round and could give my points as an one of the experts. I mean, it´s a single opninion of one person, but it influences the people at the TV and this isn´t good. Everybody has his one opinion and there don´t exist any "expert"!

I don't think the Netherlands is that bad, but I do agree with all of them. I don't see the excitment with Georgia at all.

Good Luck to Iceland!!! I so hope that they qualify to the Final :)

I did agree with them, except when it comes to Iceland. I can't believe that everyone gave him 5 ponits. It's not that good. They just did it to be nice...
